Hello, no one is listening to me!!!

Had a friend contact me wanting advise and information about diesel pickups. Tells me that he is thinking about trading in his gasser for a diesel to pull his trailer.

Then he drops the bomb on me, it will most likely be a Duramax

I just had co worker go buy a new 6.0 Ford F450 specifically because he doesn't like Cummins engines

I am not going to talk diesels with anyone I know again.

Oh well, I definately need new injectors so I can put them both in their places with my 6 year old truck.

You can lead a horse to water................

I wouldnt be suprised if your 98' will outlast them both.------That's what will "Put them in their place" in my opinion.

I don't think you have to do a thing to your 98 just put some weight say 8-10,000 on the back and race up a hill that might just shut them up. Now there is nothing you can say to a guy that would rather own a 6.0 ferd because he thinks a ferd is a better motor than a cummins. He is already clinically brain dead. as far as a flat out race tell them you know a guy with a little 2 wheel H.D. and a measly 108H.P. that is willing to give them a head start (even with bombs) and you will put up the money I bet they won't take the bet. Moral of the story is no of us bought our trucks as race machines but when we use them as intended Cummins is the top dog and cheby and ferd can stay on the porch. So there

You can always tell them they bought light duty engines for light loads...and YOU bought a medium duty engine for medium loads.

Procrastinator: Your buddies will know how good of a truck you have, when your hauling them to the shop for injector, and turbo work, and all that good stuff. Especially the one with the 6 litre. Yeah, apparently the one with the 6.0 is already brain dead if he thinks a 6.0l is better motor than the cummins. Ask him if he know of many 6.0l fords with 1,000,000 miles on them. Also, show him a rod comparison picture. That will shut him up for a while too . Good luck.

Chris I'm into the 12's with me on it ( official time from Ubley dragway 12.56) not bad for a Road king. I think I could get the time down with a lighter rider that had more experience with the light trees. I am also running a Mukuni 42 and could fuel a little harder with a 45 the six speed gets this bike rolling pretty fast. I think I could get into the high 10's but would need to go NOS and add a wheelie bar. not bad for an old fart eh

Well I have 27,000 miles on my 04 Duramax. 26,000 with the edge and attitude. Love it. Now all I need is for the new Eagle wheels to come in. Hood is in the garage waiting to be painted. I will drive it until I decided to get a new one. HEHEHEHE

Hired Gun,

The question is: do you like the Duramax engine better than the Cummins??? If so, why??

And what year of Cummins did you have??

I like to point out the fact that if the powerjoke is such a great engine why is it Ferd runs a cummins in their real trucks F-700 F-800 seires.

I test drove both the Ford and GMC diesels before I ordered my new 2004.5 CTD.

The Ford felt like a bucket of bolts and I felt that I really had to push the motor to get any speed/power. (no load). My co-pilot (wife) even said it was a "joke".

I drove the GMC Duramax for a couple of hours - I borrowed the tow vehicle from my RV dealer to try it out. Real Pretty truck, lots of bells and whistles in the displays but, again I felt that I had to push it for performance.

After selling my '96 CTD, I borrowed my dealer's Duramax again to tow my 37' RV in from a local town. Lots of rolling hills and stop signs. With cruise and in towing mode, the Duramax worked well - even when I was on the freeway and had to kick her up to 80MPH, it ran well. The most impressive item was the tranny. I must say that the Allison Auto is a dream. I suspect that the Allison is the only reason I would consider a Duramax. However, I ordered an CTD again because I felt that I needed a REAL engine working for me, one that did not have to be pushed to make it work.

I really felt that my '96 12 valve had more get-up-and go that either the Powerstroke or Duramax. The DC auto Tranny is an other story.

BTW, the GMC towing mirrors do not extend out far enough to provide good visability while towing. The power extend is a nice feature but it is not confortable towing when you do not have great visability.

Cheers frank
