gear ratio/rpm

My father-in-law is looking at one of those Military Chevy k30 pickups, CUCV type from the mid 80's. It has the 6.2 diesel, 3 speed th400 and get this 4.56 gears, with full locker front and rear.

Can you do any interstate running with a 4.56 and a 3 speed?? Cause something tells me he aint going over about 55 mph.

If 3rd is 1.0 ratio with 4.56`s and 31`s, you would be at 3K rpm at 60mph and about 2500@ 50mph. No wonder they drive so slow

Since I work for the state we get these vintage diesel trucks and Blazers for free from the National Guard.
All I can say is our price is right and I'm glad these vehicles don't go off the farm
