I owned a 6.0 it was my dream truck (03 fourdoor Lariet sunroof dvd player the whole shibang) After 28 pages of severe problems listing from rear main seals to three blown turbo's, to 6 times of being towed to the local dealership for repairs. I lemon lawed the truck. I used the money to buy a Cummins and love it. Did I mention that I only put 22,000 on the Ford and towed 12 times with it. In comparison with pulling, the Cummins would drag that 6.0 sideways...

I'm gonna get bashed for this but here it goes. If Ford still produced the 7.3 in their trucks I'd have to say I would've baught the Ford instead of the Dodge...
Maybe

Well, I won't get bashed for this, I have never liked the PSD. There have been alot of good things said about the 7.3L, but I honestly don't like the rattle.
I like the Ford bodies, but I don't like the engine. If Ford had in fact bought Cummins and started to put them in the F350....then we'd be talking.

I won't bash you for it. I have always wanted a Dodge CTD but when in came to buy I would have thought seriously about a Ford w/7.3. The fact that they stick the 6.ohmygodpleasegetmehome in them made it an easy decision.
When I wrote this I wasn't bashing... I was just reading all the troubles and thinking to myself.. man oh man there are alot of upset people there.. and glad I bought the Dodge.. When I looked at the trucks I liked the ford a little, but was looking for longevity.. It was really a toss up between the GMC and the allison trans and the Dodge with the Cummins.. My work truck has the same Cummins engine in it but the SO model and it does go through lift pumps every year. but the engines get beat up pretty bad and they just run and run.. Trucks fall apart around the engine. they get about 50K on the Odometer in 10 years but figuring the PTO hours they have over 250K miles on them when they sell them.. then they are worked another 10 years.. or more... buy the contractors that buy them.
Really glad I bought this truck it bring a smile to my face every time I get in it to drive... but I really have to feel for anyone that spends this kind of $$ on a truck to have that many problems with it. It really amazes me that they sell as many trucks as they do. I mean look at Yugo they went out of business for poor quality.
Gerry..
OH NO did I just companre a FORD to a YUGO..

we were all ford men at one point in our lives.. IMHO as long as it has no sparkplugs, then its cool in my book, surely the 6.0 is not my preference by a long shot, but the 7.3 is, diesels are different, us drivin them makes us different than the norm, and we see eye to eye on what others just dont get.. that makes us all a brotherhood... in our case the cummins pride group, who says you cannot have pride for somethin even if you dont have it? many of us like dodge vipers and dont have them, just like many of us like cummins and temporarily dont have one... is that wrong? heck no! As far as im concerned you are more than ok in my book! so long as your friendly, cool, and like diesels.. welcome aboard i say

I talked to a guy tonight at the drive in. he has a 99 7.3 witha 120K. only thing is he he just got a new engine. He said the dealer tried to trade him for a new 6.0 but the diesel mechanic told him to keep the 7.3 because for every 1 7.3 he works on he works on 3 6.0's
thats pretty bad. so as soon as the guy sells his truck he said he's getting a Dodge. he told me that he test drove one and fell in love with it.

my dream truck for a while was a old style psd with 7.3. I bought a 97 in 2001 and had it up until now and finally relaized how i hated ford and their designs. The truck had 150k when i bought and it and i had to replace glow plug relays, glow plugs, wire harness under the valve covers, leaky manifolds, very weak e4od, and fuel leaks. I grew to hate the psd the longer i had that truck. Then i drove an 87 d-350 with a cummins and fell in love. So I ordered an 05 and have 10k on it and love the cummins design for its simplicity. There's nothin better than a cummins, except one with more hp and tq than mine. Rattle on.
my dream truck is definatly a 67-72 chevy/gmc K20 4x4 wiht a 5.9 cummins under the hood well that aint never goin to happen but when i sell this truck which prolly wont be for a while i want either a 2nd gen 12v or a duramax
I was at the bloomsburg truck show and banks had 3 motors there for display with their systems on it. I was amazed at how impressive the CTD looked compared to the PS and DM....here are some pics I found just for reference (forgive them)

I'd love this one in my truck LOL

A guy in my Jeep club bought a new Super Duty. Loaded with every possible option. I tried to convince him not to buy a 6.0L but he insisted they were great engines. I hope for his sake he got one of the good ones..... because he paid out the *** for the truck, waaaay more than my Dodge.
I'm gonna smile all the way home when I'm dragging his POS home one of these days

i can honestly say that i never wanted or ever will want a ford. they got a bad rep in my book. before i got my ctd i was a die-hard chevy gasser guy and i liked the ctd's. and when my dad bought a 02 dodge diesel i loved it. so i went and bought my own. i dont like the looks of the old or the new fords.
and i especially dont like their engines. Im not sayin they all are junk, i jsut dont like em. my $.02
