Diesel Jeep Liberty for 2004!!!

Well it looks like Jeep will be offering a diesel in its Liberty next year. I hope this is a sign of things to come from DaimlerChysler and hopefully it will be a hit. Here's the article Diesel Liberty

Joe

Re:Diesel Jeep Liberty for 2004!!!

Finally : I was told by my local dealer at the begining of the year they would be making one of those Libertys in a diesel.

This will be my next vehicle purchase. 8)

I can't wait to pull up to the big rig island in a Jeep.

Finally we are making some sense at DC, in bringing small diesels to market in the US.

Once the reliability thing was out of the way and the engine proved itself, I would definately buy one. You know how it is with new things though.

I would rather have a cummins engine in a jeep but I will settle for what I can get.

I would like to see DC put a diesel in a Dakota. But I agree with dodgeman01 I would rather it be a Cummins. I think Cummins makes a 4 cylinder diesel right? -Anthony

Yeah, they have a mini version of the 12 valve six in four cylinder trim. Saw about two dozen of them brand new on crates at the local Cummins shop a few years ago. I would love to put one of those little four bangers in a little half ton truck for sure. Bet the mileage would be great.

Cummins makes a 4BTA and is common in streetsweepers. I think they put out 150HP +/-. I bet you can get one pretty cheap at state auctions, etc... You just need a tranny as the sweepers that I have seen are hydrostatic.

D-C's Zetsche said, "around the world, the Chrysler Group currently offers diesel powertrain options in the Jeep Cherokee (Liberty in North America), Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chrysler Voyager minivans. In Western Europe, diesel- powered vehicles comprise 56 percent of Chrysler Group's total sales volume."

Wish D-C would offer the Chrysler PT Cruiser with the diesel powertrain option in the US. Wife would like to have one. Wonder what it would look like with twin stacks.
D C owns Detroit Diesel also and they have some small diesels that could be used in the Dodge products.

Re:Diesel Jeep Liberty for 2004!!!

The Mercedes division is one of the pioneers in Diesel engines of the automobile size. I would expect that at least some are imported from that division as the Jeeps and PT Cruiser being exported with European components would find favorable duties. Also a Mercedes Diesel would be much more acceptable in the European market than a Yankee built Detroit Diesel.
