DEF contamination is a fallacy!
DEF contamination is a fallacy!
I’ve read and saw videos of mechanics saying that DEF contamination will ruin your truck.
This is a great big fallacy that dealerships and independent shops tell you to get yours or your insurance monitories.
This is what you do and it’s a pain, but necessary. Either drop the fuel tank or remove the bed. Remove the fuel pump and clean it with Sea Foam. Empty the tank and flush with fresh diesel and diesel clean. Get a 2 cycle bottle of oil and pour in the tank. Remove the primary fuel filter. Check the secondary fuel filter. If it’s not contaminated with the white crystal DEF residue, that’s good...I’ll explain later. Disconnect the fuel line. Using a funnel, pour 2 cycle oil and Sea Foam in the line. Use compressed air to blow from the front-back. Repeat at least once. Now, if you’re secondary filter is contaminated with DEF, you will need to pull all of the injectors. Clean or replace if the tips are broken. I recommend doing one at a time. Flush all the lines with Sea Foam and 2 cycle oil. Once you are complete, reconnect all the lines and replace with new filters. Note: make sure you prime the secondary filter with fresh diesel. Reinstall the tank. Once every thing is put back together, refill with new diesel fuel. Turn the ignition on. allow the pump to build up pressure..it will take longer to build up pressure, which is normal. Crank and allow to run for 2-3 minutes and turn it off. Repeat, but this time allow it to run longer. Turn it off and inspect all the lines for any leaks. Ya-da!...
I saved myself $23k. My truck is running great. I hope this helps you if you had the same issue. Don’t let the dealerships fool you and extort you’re hard earned money.
I am not a mechanic by far, I’m just a poor disabled war veteran that took a chance and was successful. I just wanted to help others and let them know there is hope.
