I hear ya. I was doing the same thing this last time I was home, about my 97. As it turns out, I was offered $2,300 more than what I paid for it, and the guy flashed the cash in my face. I simply couldn't do it, cuz I doubt I will ever find another 97 5 speed 2 owner with ALL service records since new, and with very minor mods like this one too. It is an unabused, very well taken care of truck, you simply don't find that everyday. And it's rust free, which doesn't exist in WI.

I traded my 04 dually for my 06 dually for $7800 to boot tax and licence. On the 06 I gained power seat, power rear sliding window, antispin rear axil, and new warranty. Not to mention my 04 needed new tires and had 55,000 miles. Plus all my Accesories nerf bars, TST, Exhause brake box liner all was removed and installed on the 06.

I was offered $28,000.
Even the salesman was laughing when he brought it back from the managers office!

Cummins hold value ??
You bet. Just sold my '03 SLT 2500 HO QC 3.73 NV5600 exhaust brake Linex with 70000+ miles for 23,500 dollars. Gave 26,250 new with all the cash back and farm tax credit. Did a nada and kbb search on my same year Hemi or GM/Ford BB gassers equivilent package trucks and boy are they takin' a big hit on resale. Boy am I missin' that 21-22 mpgs on the road. Hope the '07 can get close

As someone that has traded in two fairly new vehicles in the last few years, I think that is about right.

My trucks were both 3500 duallies. A 2005 with 29,000 miles and a 2007 with 11,000 miles. I got $30,000 for the 2005 and I got $32,000 for the 2007. Took a huge loss on both of them, but not as bad as I was expecting. I bought the 2005 for $38k and the 2007 for $36k.

I was looking at an '03 Harley Davidson F-150. They have a slightly detuned Lightning engine in them and a very nice interior. They run in the low $20ks.

Laughing at what? The person who's trading in a year old truck and expecting not to get hosed?

This right here is exactly why I stick with my paid-for '96 Ram 2500/CTD. Sure I've put some money into it. but the depreciation curve is quite flat at this point, and for the purposes I own it for, it still works well. Believe me there are times I would really like to own a much newer truck. Since it's not the only veichle that I presently own, it's not imperitive that the truck be stone-reliable.

My car is a 2000 Honda Accord, 5-spd, with around 147k on it. Now if you want to save money on a car/truck, etc, consider this thought: I paid just over 6k for this Accord EX, which I bought from the original owner. He had all reciepts, had taken excellent care of the car, and with around 135k I bought it this spring. After adding 12k miles to it, I average 28 - 35 mpg hand-calculated, and have had three people so far try to give me what I paid for the car if I would sell it to them. Even if I spend $2500 on maintance and sell the car at 200k miles for around $3000 (and I'll be there in about a 2 years), I've really only lost around $5500 in maintance and depreciation. This is why I continue to buy older cars & trucks in general.

That, my friend, is also why you are making the most of the rest of your $$.

I remember reading one financial expert say that if the average person drove their car for 10 years instead of 3, the difference saved would total over a $1M in their lifetime.

If the difference was invested, they said it was more like $5M.

Crazy!

My truck is paid for in a couple weeks. Then I can bomb with aplomb.

Hey, sorry to poke fun at something that's no doubt pretty stressful. I can imagine you'd only consider trading in the 06 if you REALLY needed to get rid of it.

But you have to do what you have to do, so hang in there.
