Cummins counters misinformation on new engines
This appeared in today's issue of Autotech Daily, and I thought it might be of interest to the group.

CUMMINS EXTENDS "UPTIME GUARANTEE" FOR NEW ENGINES

Cummins Inc. is extending its "Uptime Guarantee" program, which reimburses owners of its ISX and ISM diesel engines for potential rental expenses, through the end of the year.
The initiative was due to expire at the end of the month. Using cooled exhaust gas recirculation, the engines were the first to meet stricter U.S. diesel emission standards when they were introduced last October. Cummins says
4,200 of the new engines are in service now, and it has received orders for more than 7,800 others so far. The warranty, which seeks to offset what Cummins calls misinformation about the reliability of the new engines, reimburses customers for up to three days of truck rental if any part of the powerplant can’t be repaired within 24 hours. Trucks currently using the engines have been driven a combined 37 million miles. To date, Cummins says it has had to reimburse only six owners. It attributes five of the cases to supplier-related defects and the other to a misdiagnosis by a dealer.
