Cummins in a 78 ford
Howdy all!
I have a bud who is contemplating sticking a CTD in a 78 Ford F250. The pickup is a project monster truck (at least eventually it will be a monster). I'm sure if he wants to spend a lot of money he could get a late model 5.9 with all the computer stuff but how old does he have to go to avoid the computer? Can the mechanical cummins be modified for high hp/torque equivalent to the newer engines? Would it be better to go with a computer cummins? Where would we go about finding one? My suggestion was a salvage yard but then you might be getting into a huge headache.
If anyone has tried/done this, any help or ideas would be welcome.
Thanks
Russ
