Cummins in 2WD Crew Cab Chevy

Hey everyone, I am going to be purchasing a old body style 3/4 ton crew cab chevy 2 wheel drive. I am looking into putting a cummins into it along with a 5 speed NV4500. I was just wondering if anyone has attempted this and could give me any tips on doing it? I know people have put them in 4x4 but wasn't sure with it being 2 wheel drive if everything will clear alright height wise being on some you have to do a body lift? I am either planning on making it a dually rear or leaving it 3/4ton and cutting down the frame and making it a crew cab short bed. Thanks with any information or know of anywhere I can get parts to make this easier.

Thanks,

Jesse

Yeah, I have heard that the frame crossmember in the 2wd model is lower and accomidates the tall engine, while the 4X4 crossmember needs to be modified.

http://www.autoworldmt.com/ Check this place out for some good info and good luck! I am thinking about a conversion into a Chevy pickup of the same era, but using a 354 Perkins.

The Diesel Power conversion was an early 90's Chevy pickup with a swapped in solid axle. DP covers the conversion pretty good.

Is your rig is an pre-91, or is it an 88-2000 body style?

It is a pre 91. What do you guys think make it a shortbed or turn it dually?
