Car Fax
Car Fax
Anybody have a car fax account that they can run a VIN check for me? I'm looking at a 1995 2500 xcab and would like to know the history. Are these reports worth running?
I think they are worth it, for peace of mind in most cases. They are intersting to read, I never saw mine unitl after the papers were signed and it was officially "mine". I was plesantly suprised to see that it was a one owner, bought and registered locally.
You'll want to know if it spent it first 5 years as a leased Fleet truck.
Ususally someone has a dealers license or monthly subscription here.
Good Luck.

The best report to get is from your insurance agent. It is called a CLUE. Comprehensive Loss something something. For the life of me I can never remember the last two. It will have EVERY insurance claim that the truck has ever had. It also helps if you are a friend of your agent too.

Comprehensive Loss Underwriters Exchange. It not only follows the property (car, truck, house) it follows the "insured" too.
Be VERY wary of EVER calling your insurance agent with ANY questions about a loss. They can and do report even "Incidents" which can include you even asking about your policy in reagards to a potential claim.
Example, your son or daughter backs into your truck with a fourwheeler in the driveway. The bedside is crunched, and we all know how expensive body work is. You don't exactaly want to turn it in, but on the other hand, your truck is almost new and you liked it that way. So, you do the natural thing and have the wife call to see what your deductable is so you can weigh the options and think about getting an estimate. Guess what, you just had an incident! Did you get a check from your insurance company, no. Did your truck even get looked at by the body shop, no.
It's scary. We have had people have a hard time getting homowners because the sellers of the property called evertime the gutters were clogged or neighbors dog crapped in their yard. Thats the hurt in even inquring, they document it ALL.
So in closing, the CLUE report is the be all end all of insurance reporting, an probably a great way to check up on a used truck.
The guy may have spilled his morning coffee on the carpet and told his agent about it.

I hate to admit it, but PJ is 110% right.
You are not in "good hands" and your "good neighbors" will steal you blind.
NEVER CALL YOUR INSURANCE AGENT WITH CLAIM QUESTIONS! IT COUNTS AGAINST YOUR CLAIM RECORD FOR EVEN ASKING AND YOUR RATES GO UP!
