Bio Diesel... Good or Bad?
Bio Diesel... Good or Bad?
I am a new owner on a 02 cummins and I had a 96 about 3 years ago before all this bio fuel came about now I have some people saying that the bio fuels will mess up the fuel systems only heard of the powerstrokes doing it so far but I noticed my local truck stop went to the Bio Willie's anyone heard of any problems with this?
I believe Bio-Willie is B20 at the pump, a blend of 20% bio fuel and 80% petro. I've only heard of problems with 3rd generations when the concentration is over 50%. Apparently the high pressure common rail fuel system changes the bio fuel at the molecular level. It becomes stringy. Since the system returns a portion of unused fuel back to the tank, the problem therein lies with it's second trip through, clogging things up.
I'm running B20 with no strings attached! You should be just fine running anything from B2 - B20 concentrations of BioDiesel. After all, Daimler Chrysler already approved B20 for use in model year 2007. I would bet that they did not change anything to allow use of Bio in the 2007's as all the fuel related components are already copesthetic with BioDiesel (Viton). Probably just an endorsement by DC to help sell more 2007's and be more EPA friendly in their ULSD 6.7 engines. According to reports, current diesel Rams are already shipped with B5 in the tank from the factory.

You know I have been running the B20 for the past three tanks. The truck runs great!! I read that you should change the fuel filter after the first two tanks. Mine was pretty dirty. Other then that, no problems at all.
