General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

That an OLD 3408 TA Cat... Not much HP in that one, especially for its weight. Transplant a JRE in there and you could double the HP. Pretty cool old truck though.

The truck sure has a long hood for a V-6 (albeit a BIG one)

That V-16 is just bad to the bone!

Cat 3408's were only good for maybe 425 Hp in the day. Now you get 15-18L inline sixes with 600 hp and near 2000 ft-lbs torque that weigh less and get better mileage.. FWIW... Yellow is a nice colour though..

D-Zilla... have you seen/heard about the C-175 thats out now??.. Its a common rail 16 cylinder...looks like a hybrid between the current 3500C's and the old 6 1/4 bores... Bu-Koo H.P.
The '08s u have, r they A or B engines???

Yea, the pic you guys have is for a 2-4MW EPG, which ive been working on at Lafayette . They will be producing a 20 cylinder to replace the 3524 that goes in the 797 truck though. These things are fire breathers guys.

I got to see one running on a load bank last year in Peoria.... They were playing with the fuel programming the day I saw it...
Guess thats where the N.G. and diesel will split, 3500 will eventually go to the C-175 design, and the 3500 series N.G. possibly go to the 3520 phase II design using the Raptor valve???..

I work alot with 3500 series N.G engines in the field. Many packagers used the 3500 frames about 5 years ago, but now with Waukesha out with Series Four 12 cyls with over 1500 hp, its hard for Cat to compete.
