General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

[QUOTE=ptgarcia;1116964]That's the biggest problem with mass transit in the US. Some of you guys in the mid-west have driveways so long it takes a hour to walk down to the mailbox!QUOTE]

My lane (Which I maintain) is 1/2 mile long.

Most people in Europe and England (or major cities on U.S. coasts) that I talked with really can't understand how open it is here in the midwest. I used public transportation there, because you only had to walk a few blocks to get to a train or underground. The number of people per square mile makes public transportation not practical here. The closest business (gas station) is over 2 miles away from my house and I live inside the city limits, not out in the country. I drive 14 miles to work, and that's not 1/2way across town and it takes me 20-25 minutes. I enjoyed the lack of having a car over there, but it just doesn't work here.
I would love to have a car or light truck with a TD, but around here the diesel is $.50-.70 higher per gallon than gas.

I was over in Germany for the first time in June. Every way i turned there was some neat little diesel car. I was amazed though when i asked about the highspeed trains to get all around the country. Most people told me it was cheaper to fly from city to city. Its different over there. Also they pay a tax based on the mileage driven per year. Ofcousre this is just what the people I worked with told me. I did see one CTD over there in Downtown Hanover. It was suprizing to see that.

I am on my second tour in germany, I love it there (currently in the big sand box). My wife loves to drive the "Beasty cruiser" around and scare the bejebers out of the walkers on the sidwalks. you gotta love zipping along at 90 mph and being passed like you are standing still by a hot lil sedan pushing a lil black smoke.
