Aisin 6 speed in Toyota diesel

Just read in Diesel World Toyota has selected the Aisin 6-speed as the tranny they are going to use behind their new diesel Tundras, Sequios, etc..

I would says if these tranny are good enough for Toyota they must be very solid.

Just thought i would let yall know.

Pretty cool, hopefully the america autos are finally learing to use quality stuff!

What diesel are they using?

Also it is only the cab and chasis trucks that get the aisin in Dodges. Time to nut up and get a Sterling or CandC I guess.

it is a toyota diesel i dunno, i will read it again and let you know.

maybe you misunderstood what i said. i realize only the cab and chassis DODGES get the Aisin, but Totoya has selected it as the tranny they are going to use behind their diesel. has nothing to do with dodge.

Whatever 6 spd auto Toyota is using in new Tundra is having major problems. There's one guy on one of the Tundra forums that just lost his SECOND transmission and the truck has under 1,000 miles.

They are also having other problems with them too. I did frequent that site when I was looking for a new truck and asked a lot of questions.

I just recently posted that I bought a dodge on there and listed the reasons why , it got like 400 hits pretty quickly.. Haven't checked it lately.

I believe Aisin has been supplying all of the Toyota Autos for the last few years.

Lots of transmission problems huh! Compared to what? Dodge has such a terrific history with their auto's behind the Cummins. Better yet, the Daimler designed 48re to help their autos last a bit longer. After I got my new truck Dodge called me to get feedback on my purchase. I informed them that it was nice to hear they wanted my input after ten days of ownership! And I also said I would have paid the premium for the Aisin, that was designed for a diesel engine, then another junk Crysler transmission! I'd rather have a problem with a Toyota then my domestic where the dealer can't duplicate the problem! Been down that road to often.

I havent seen any REAL problems with these trucks yet, mostly minor stuff, radios inop, broken door linkage clips etc. Might be because were not moving tooo many of them (and the store I work at moves 280-300 vehicles a month on avg). Guess thats why i saw a 0% finance deal on the TV the other day. As a side note, they are really pretty nice if thats your cup `o` tea. Oh and the 6 speed is indeed an Aisin unit, don`t know if it shares anything with one Mopar uses.

Only thing I've seen is the camshaft failures and the poor frontal crash rating compared to Dodge, GM, and Ford who all have 5 star ratings.

I really don't think the one Dodge uses has anything in common. The Dodge one is a medium duty auto... Toyota is still a "light" truck.

I don't know for sure, but am willing to bet on it.
