A hot VP44 seems to end up being a dead VP44, I guess I just don't understand why anyone would purposely set out to kill their IP by running low of it's cooling life blood.

you guys must have money to burn!!! Running your truck that low is sooooo hard on your fuel system components.

Up here, if you pre-pay with a credit card, the pumps shut off at $75.00. I like to have a FULL tank when i leave the pumps, so I try to fill up when i get to about 1/3 tank. From there $75, fills her up.

I don't have money to burn. Besides the purchase of the truck, regular oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, etc stuff like that, the ONLY money I've spent on the truck is:

EZ - $479.00
used RV275's - $125.00 (installed myself)
pre-bought MEK - $50.00 (installed myself)
Bed mat - $80 (I don't remember exactly)
REK - paid a shop about $40 to pull the resonator.
front brake pads (@ 85k) - $60 (installed myself)
tires (@ 102k) - $750 (I don't mind laying down coin for good quality tires)

That's all I can remember (oh yeah, one brake light bulb!). I've had 1 LP replaced under warranty. I'm on the original VP and 2nd LP at 108,000 miles.

My truck has been CHEAP and comparatively PROBLEM FREE. I don't make a regular habit of running it that dry. However (knock on wood) my truck doesn't seem to fit into what most consider the norm, or I probably would have lost the VP long ago.

I'm coming up on my 7 year anniversary with the truck, I still love it! And with the 6.7L coming out with all this emmisions junk, I feel LUCKY to have the truck I have. Paid for, low problems, 6 speed, awesome sound, awesome tires, yada yada yada. I'm a lucky SOB. I don't deserve a tenth of what I have. God has truelly blessed me.

I get stressed out about a bunch of things I WANT to spend money on (truck has a dent and busted taillight, I have a project RX-7 that's just sitting, there's a few things I'd like to have for the family Odyssey, a couple ATV's to go ATV'ing/camping with my boys, a zero-turn mower sure would be nice vs. my old school riding mower that takes 5+ hours to mow the grass, the house needs this, that and the other). Then I think about how lucky I am to have what I have and that regardless of what I want, I have enough faith to know that I'll always manage to get what I NEED. The stress melts away, and I don't let much bother me. Especially something like a VP.

Don't know why I went off on that tangent. But maybe just to say, that I really don't worry about the VP. If it goes, it goes. I'll deal with it. From what I've been reading, I think I would really be interested in a HRVP ... and they don't seem to be that expensive. I might even buy one before my VP craps out. So ... no worries for me. If I want to shoot for 800 miles on a tank, and run out of fuel, so be it. But I won't let "WORRY" stop me from doing what I really want to. It just ain't worth it. Faith beats worry every time. Of course I'm not stupid enough to try 800 miles that's just an example.

To each his own!

I usually fill up between 550 and 625 miles on the tank. If i try I can pull in the 20 MPG club. My 95 gets 17.5-18.5 MPG on avg in town. The 04.5 just got 18.3 MPG with the wife commuting back and forth to work. If anyone asks why go so far on fuel it is simple. Charleston SC to Dallas on one fuel stop

I just moved from Denver to Knoxville and on the way out only stopped twice for fuel. Stopped on the west side of Topeka (a mistake) and again in Warrenton MO. Went from Warrenton to Oak Ridge on one tank. Had just about an 1/8 left when I got here. Which is a good thing seeing as how nothing is open late here . Granted I wasn't towing, but the truck was loaded pretty good and that dang tarp was acting like a large 'chute most of the way here. Oh yeah 05 2500 with BDDL on perf setting the whole way...I loved the look people gave me as I passed them driving a vehicle that looked like it came off the set of Sanford and Son

From the break-in period pulling 8k gooseneck and 7k payload:
229.5 miles driven using 26.478 gallons @ $2.839 per gallon resulting in 8.668 MPG for a cost of 32.8 cents per mile costing $75.171 to fill up.

If I have a mix of highway and town/oilfield driving I can get 475-550 out of it, cut out the oilfield and I can get 550-600 and if its just highway 660 or so is not uncommon. Not bad for something resembling a blue brick on 35in tires

Yeah that's where I'm at. I normally stop around 450 to stretch the legs and back. Plus I normally fill up cause sometimes in our area the highways shut down, and I want to make sure I have a long time of ideling fuel (in case it's hot, or extreamly cold)

A bonified member of the 700 mile club. Impressive realistic mileage there. There was a guy somewhere (don't remember if it was in this thread or not) that said he was running big tires (30 somethings), big injectors, a box, lifted, blah blah blah, and his driving style was "raping it," and gets 28 mpg. I'm not saying he doesn't, but I am saying I don't believe it.

21.8 mpg cruising the interstate is very realistic to me ... and very impressive too. Congrats.

You might have to have categories in this 700 mile club. I'm waiting for someone that carries a 100+ gallons or so and says he's gone coast to coast and back....
I have a 78 gallon in bed tank in addition to my stock tank for a total of around 115 gal. I have 1200 miles on it right now and still showing 1/2 a tank in the stocker(aux is empty). I drove from Knoxville IA to Panama city FL without stopping (For fuel, my bladder isn't that big).
