'68 F*** Pickup conversion to Diesel
'68 F*** Pickup conversion to Diesel
I'm looking for suggestions on generation of Cummins to use to re-power by 1968 F*** F250 Highboy - engine and tranny. I'm not afraid of computers, so later model computer controlled units are fine.
I've been to http://www.fordcummins.com/ and saw whay they have to offer, but am looking for indepedent advice.
Thanks
Peter

I would say that you would be better off with a 12-valve, mainly because they avoid some of the computer stuff. That said, I do have one and it has been really reliable.
I have thought about doing this to an old 66 Ford that I have too, but just haven't found the engine/tranny or time to do so. Good luck to you!

Piers from PDR built himself a sweet older Ford (not sure of the year) with a 12v Cummins for a personal toy and I've seem a mid 80s ford locally that has had a 12v transplant so I dont think its that big of a job?
So you're going to have to 'splain to me the basic difference between the 12v and later engines and how I can tell the difference--please. When I go into the market place I've got to know what I'm looking for.
Everyone seems so worried about the computer, my understanding is that it comes attached to the computer and is completely self contained - are the issues?
