Anyone know anything about these engines? It seems a friend has one in a 953 loader and it has an knock. Cat wants 12k for a crate engine and 8k to build his. They have not even dropped the pan, but they say they are junk! Not eveyday you hear someone cull their own! Any help would be appreciated.

pull it out and send it to me, I can get all the machine work done and rebuilt for way less than that.

Well, there is a little more to the story it seems. The engine has 400 hours on it since it was rebuilt. During the rebuild "something slipped" while honing a cylinder and that cylinder had to be sleeved. According to Cat, these engines have a problem with wrist pin bushings coming apart and destroying eveything including the block. They are just giving me worst case scenario I think. I have talked to a guy at a rebuild shop and he says 5800 or so. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of other shops to see how things go. Dencordle you've got mail.
