I wonder if at least some stations price their fuel according to their cost whenever they buy a load and then they only change their price when they buy a load. If they price their fuel at at the same number of cents above their cost and since they may only purchase a load of unleaded on one day and maybe a load of diesel 3 days later their prices could sometimes be way different that their competition and the differential between unleaded and diesel could vary a lot.
