Fueling follies
Fueling follies
I went to fill up my tank this morning. I was already half full but anticipating the fuel prices going up in the next couple of days I wanted to top off. The pump was ridiculously slowwwwwwwwww. I mean it was literally putting in a penny per second.. you could see the pennies slowly click over on the meter. So I went inside and asked the girl why it was so slow. She said that it wasn't slow so I figured it had speeded up and went out to check. It had put in $1.89 in 8 minutes of pumping!!!!!! So I went back inside and asked for the manager. He told me that nothing was wrong with the pump and I should hang up my nozzle and re-run my debit card. After running my card through 2 more times and even moving to a different pump it was still slowwwwwwwwwwwwww. Finally I'm ready to blow a gasket and I went in to talk to the manager again. Pump time so far 27 minutes! I asked him if I was being charged a transaction fee for each transaction and he goes into a speech about customer convenience. I reminded him that I was being inconvinienced and asked for the district managers phone number. Meanwhile the pump is clicking over a penny at a time. I waited inside while the manager talked on the phone for about 10 minutes and he walks out and tells me that he can't give me the district managers phone number. Then hands me the phone and says here he is. So I'm relating my story to the district manager for another 5 minutes and some guy runs in and tells me that my tank is overfilling.
Somewhere during the course of things the pump finally sped up and didn't click off when the tank filled up. Unfreakinbelievable! I told the manager that I wanted $10 for my fees and lost fuel. Grabbed my $10 and got the hell out of there before I ripped someones head off! So an hour later I'm finally able to get on with my day.< veins bulging out of my head>
I got one that will get ya'll.... went to a Shell station.... swipe card start pumping.... fuel coming out good and fast but no numbers registering on the pump.... display screen still showing "select grade" about a min or so goes by message screen beeps and says "transaction canceled see attendant" but she's still pumping.... no numbers showing up. I am thinking no problem.. I will just settle up inside..... tank full....put hose back and now the $$$ due shows up... $78+ seems normal... go inside to settle bill.... attendandent said the "computer says you didn't get any fuel" and that it was "impossible to pump" with out using the CC...... I say my guage says full and heard it pumping..... while the guy was scratching his head the owner pulls up (gotta love these ma&pa operations the folks are always nice) he couldn't figure it out either.... He took my info and said we could settle up if his end of the day numbers were off by my fillup amount..... If I wern't the honest person that I am it would have been like hitting the lottery! Full tank of fuel and no transaction recorded.
The slow pump thing must have something to to with the overfill. The same thing happened to me in N.C on the way home from my brothers. I dropped the wife and brat off at MickeyD's and spun over to the station (within sight). I walked in to ask *** and came back out to a huge mess all over the pavement and sife of my truck, Being the jerk that I am I proceed to yank about 90 paper towels out of the despenser, wipe off my truck and throw them on the ground at my feet.
Oddly enough the only time I've had it that slow was at the Flying J on I-10/Hwy90 in the Florida panhandle with my '03 Cummins Ram. When I asked about it, they said the filter neede to be changed and the tech was not on the grounds at the time. Sounds believeable enough but I was there about 20minutes before I decided to take what I had and move on. But, yesterday I decided to top off my gas hog and ran into a fairly slow pump. I can't help but wonder if it's a way to discourage high sales. Gas pumps don't usually suffer from clogged filters.
