Bio kit with everything?
Bio kit with everything?
Im looking at getting this setup for making bio, and have been doing a little reading on it, does this kit truly have everything I need? aside from WVO collection pump, I have drums, and a water heater. in reading it says I have to dry the washed fuel but this kit doesn't have anything about drying it, what else would I need with this kit?

Hey there,
The "kit" you are talking about is merely an appleseed processor. I have one that I put together from the list online. I recommend that you find the list of components and put it together from there as you will save money on shipping and all the pieces can be found at a hardware store.
About drying and washing:
You will get a lot of different opinions about these two processes. There are many variations of them. Most people that I know that make bio around my house are doing a 5 percent prewash and then bubbling out the methanol. The prewash stops the reaction and sends all the glycerine to seperate faster than normal. The other method that I do because I like to wash my biodiesel fully even though tests have shown about the same between the regular washing and prewash. In order to do a regular wash, there are two methods. One is bubbling and the other is misting. Bubbling is more vigorous on the biodiesel and will create an emulsion unless the bio is made well. I usually mist my first wash and now bubble the next one or so batches depending on the look and quality of the bio after the washes. Misting is done with a mist head and simply spraying the water into the bio to get the most surface area over the bio. The bubbling is pouring the water in the tank and then having an aquarium bubbler on a bubbling stone or water bottle. The water in both cases will drop through the bio and pull the catalyst and methanol with it. Over all with pumps, stands, tanks, and parts, expect to pay around 700 to 800 dollars for the whole setup. If you can find some stuff for free such as the waterheater and tanks like you said, and maybe some other key components, you can put the stuf together with around 300 bills. If you have any more questions just post them up here. I am not an expert by no means but I have made a couple gallons of bio.
Also,
Why are you putting together the biodiesel stuff? I hope you already have some lines on some sodium or potassium hydroxide and some methanol. Methanol has skyrocketed lately from the point that it went from 3 sumthing a gallon to 7 or more dollars a gallon. Also, if you value your time, this isnt the hobby to get into as a ton of time is put into making and refining the biodiesel. Not that I want to turn you away, but it is a lot of work.
Good Luck,
DK

where might I find this parts list? I have 6 poly 55 gallon drums, but they are black. I also am getting an old water heater soon.
what about the titration testing stuff? can I buy that PH testing stuff at a hardware store too?
can I use the same washing drum for drying? I was thinking of just plumbing some more valves to the pump from the wash tank to circulate it and spray it? is humidity going to be a problem with drying? would I be better off pumping it through a few water separators or something?
