All you 20+ mpg people
Hmmmm, my best was filling up, driving a known distance of 100 miles over a mountain pass at 70-80mph, then topping off again before heading up into the mountains. The truck took 5 gallons of fuel. Given the speed and grades along with my truck's gear ratio, lift, and tires, I was impressed to say the least.
80% city driving just netted me about 11.5 mpg uncorrected on an entirely stock truck. What's 285's calculate out to? My k+n filter is pretty dirty still, so I have to clean that. I also just replaced the fuel filter so we'll see how that helps this tank. Anyone have a clue of the primer on my lift pump should be bubbling around the button? I plan on changing the tranny fluid and filter this week, adjusting the bands, and changing the fluid in the front and rear end this week. Does anyone have any clue what other maint. items help increase mileage, or are just plain a good idea?
Thanks,
Shawn

I averaged 20.2mpg per the overhead on a 340 mile trip this past Sat. Stock truck. Napa gold oil, air, and fuel filter. Rotella 5-40 synthetic and power service white bottle. Speed 65-75mph with a short 80mph run and a couple of miles of stop and go.
i can go about 360 to 370 miles on a half tank i believe i have a 32 gallon tank i've never put more then 31 gallons or so and that's when it's on E my gauge in the truck says i'm getting 26-28 mpg the truck is a 5-speed 2wd between 1/4 and an 1/8th of a tank i can go about 510 -520 miles

I just returned from a 3500 mile trip and got over 19 MPG - quite an increase over my previous best considering this was the truck's maiden voyage with the 37" (no lift
) Toyos... and that was over the Appalachians with a 1000# of extra stuff in the bed, so I was for sure well over 10K# gross.
1800 RPM is the sweet spot when I'm in 7th gear!

I just took a trip on pretty flat ground on I90 around syracuse. 17.5 going out, 15 coming back into a headwind. 70 (uncorrected) the entire way with RPM's at about 1900ish. Pretty disappointed, thought I'd do better with zero city miles. I think I'm gonna bring it by Cummins NE this week and have them bump the timing up.

Just filled up today. Got 13.1 mpg in town keeping the boost below 6 psi on take-offs from stand still. Last tank, I got 12.5 mpg and I was driving it a lot harder (10-15 psi take-offs). I was really surprised that I only got 0.6 mpg better when I drove it very conservatively.
Just got through towing to south of Indy, over to Cinci and back to Montgomery.
With a 4,130 lb enclosed trailer, and a small car (this time) around 13k total I got 12.45 mpg from my house to southern KY, 13.89 mpg from southern KY to Florence, KY, 13.18 mpg from florence to Birmingham, and 14.04 mpg from Birmingham to my house.
For an average of 13.39 mpg. Not too shabby. I'm one of the 20 mpg people when not towing and running around 70 mph on the interstate.

I just bought my 2001 CTD and I can't beleive that people get 18 to 19 miles to a gallon of diesel. The best I can do is 12 to 13 miles to a gallon of diesel city mileage. I don't hot rod it either, but I do have 285/ 16 tires. Best mileage on highway was 21mpg. Loaded with a28 ft travel trailer, not fifth wheel was 9.5 mpg. My brother in law with his Hemi gets 9 in the city highway about 12 with his fifth wheel about 6 mpg. Is there anything I should check to get better fuel economy I have checked all the basic such as air filter, tire pressures that sort of stuff. Can any body help!
