The above link is to a site that gives a chemical analysis of what happens when you add a very small amount of acetone (1 to 1 1/2 ounce per 10 gals of diesel) to your fuel tank and you are supposed to get much better milage. Says it will work for gas rigs also. Any of you guys ever hear of this or have any info on if it works or not?

There were several threads on this subject a year or so ago.

Most that tried it saw no definable change in MPG.

*A note of extreme caution: Acetone is a very powerful solvent, and extremely corrosive to rubber. In fact, when the acetone hits a rubber fuel line, or o-rings, or any other rubber part coming into contact with the acetone, it will slowly be dissolved away. With continual corrosion of the rubber, it will eventually disintegrate, leading to extensive repairs of the fuel line, and a possibly worse if it happened while driving. When it all comes down to it, realize that you are using the acetone at your own consequence.

Bull crap. Waste of money and time. Myth busters ran tests and said BUSTED.

Dont believe the acetone myth.
I have access to thousands of gallons of it at work and if it did work,then i'd be using it.
Also no MEK or tolulene or naptha and no mineral spirits they'll just thin down the fuel and do nothing for capilary attraction/dispersion.
Use two-stroke instead,it does make for better economy and its good for the pumps and the valve guides and the compression rings.
I saw a 2mpg increase with 2 stroke over non treated diesel fuel.

acetone is a very strong solvent and will eat away gaskets and orings...
