Engine Brake Pulsing
Engine Brake Pulsing
Without my trailer, the engine brake works well...very solid and high boost pressure. With my trailer, descending a hill in a coasting mode and lowish rpms, the thing pulses from 7 psi down to 3 psi, then back up, then back down. One cycle of this takes about two seconds or so. If I go into a braking or downshift mode with more rpm, it works fine...lots of boost pressure and good braking. I had it cleaned a year ago and haven't put on 10,000 miles since. I cleaned it due to some issues last year and the dealer suggested cleaning. This was just before programmer install and deletes. I frequently use the engine brake loaded or not. I run the H&S XRT PRO in Tow mode, with no EGR or DPF installed. Anyone know what's up? Is it the turbo or is the programmer doing something?
I use the H&S mini maxx and I know according to H&S that the programmer will control the vanes to a more closed position that stock so the programmer is definitely inputting when it wants to. try having a look on the H&S forums to see if there are comments on the XRT pro. Here is a link to their forums. http://www.hsperformance.com/1/
H&S confirms the programmer varies the vanes in the turbo but they do not do any programming in regards to the turbo in exhaust brake mode. I suspect either the actuator is goofy or the turbo is dirty again. Anyone have any instruction on removal and inspection of the turbo to actually tell if something is too dirty? Or do I put my ecm back to stock and hit the dealer for a diagnosis? I'll scan for a hidden code...maybe there is something even though no check engine light.
