alternator help
Ok guys ive built a 55 chevy 4 wheel drive truck and stuffed a 12 valve in it my question is do they make a conversion kit to put a one wire chevy alternator on this motor that u can buy so i dont have to fab the brackets so i can spend my time driving this thing instead of workin on it more. I will try and post pics as soon as i figure that part out

I have used the GM alternator in quite a few applications over the years so I completely understand the simplicity, in your case I would back track and use a Dodge alternator and external voltage reg. First the alternator would have the correct size pulley second it would bolt straight up and third if you boost someone it's easy to blow a diode with the GM. Here is a link to a thread that has a very simple drawing of how to hook up the external volt reg. NOTE the very simple drawing is close to the bottom of the thread not the one near the top. http://www.justanswer.com/dodge/3hv0...evy-truck.html

PA performance has a 1 wire alternator, that is simple to wire. It fits directly in place of the stock alternator and has an internal regulator. I have used these, when the ECM in my dodges would quit regulating the voltage. They have held up well. I think they are available through Destroked. You have to specify the 1 wire alternator, they also make one with about 3 wires to connect.
