Pulling Tips for Auto
I have never pulled before and was wondering what some tips would be for pulling my truck. I plan on doing so upgrades this winter and then pull a couple of times a year.
4 hi or 4 lo?
put it in drive or manually select gear?
how to launch?
Just any general tips people have would be great. Maybe we could start a howto or at least a sticky?
At first I am just going to upgrade valve body and torque converter.
Also what does everyone use for a pulling hitch? I have read that most places require a horizontal loop at a certain height. For someone that doesn't weld, can you buy one?

when I hooked my truck, I ran it in 4 low and shut the o/d off. I didnt get a full pull but at the end of my pull it was spinning good and not bogged down at all.
you may look into having someone add a clutch per each clutch pack. a couple good builders can do this if you have low miles or your trans. upgrades are worth the money. the stock tranny wont take sled pulling much at all. I basically got on the brakes until my truck wanted to go and then put it on the floor

like pourindiesel said. do a search for pulling hitch. he does a have a really nice built hitch he uses. it seems to hold up and is adjustable. a guy had one on here for sale a while back but he wanted 240 for it. surely you can build one for way less
