Looking to get into Pulling
I looked on here and couldn't find any threads about starting. i need to know everything yall can tell me. i need to know what classes there are. if i want a 12v or a 24v reg cab ext or 4door i know i need 4wd. do i need or will i want a drw or not and do i need a standard or auto. and maybe so mod ideas for the drivetrain.... all help would be greatly appreciated. also what do yall think should i do a 1st gen or a 2nd cause i can't afford to break a 3rd gen
Thanks,
Thanks,
Ok to be brutally honest that 3rd gen will be the most affordable to pull of all if you use your head.
By a spare truck to tow with or a back up.
Reasons your 3rd gen is the toughest and cheapest to pull with:
1. NV5600...no need for upgrade to 1 3/8" input (already there) your savings $700
2. Axles that are big enough to hold up to pulling stock: Savings=$2000
3. U joints AND yokes big enough already to pull stock: Savings = $600
4. Best, biggest transfer case stock as it sits (nv271) Savings$1200
There are many more reasons to pull the 3rd gen but hey you dont have to listen to me.
Building a 2nd gen requires alot more work and money. Your 3rd gen was almost built to pull right out off the show room floor.
If you use your head it will serve you for years to come pulling!
I have been pulling my 3rd gen since it was new in 2004.

really, really, really, really deep pockets. best way to describe it, if you got enough money to buy a complete other truck and not worry, your on a good start. make sure you got a tow truck and trailer cause eventually your gonna need to pull it to a pull or get it home after it breaks, and as you start adding horsepower you will start finding the weekest links, like a clutch, then u-joints, then axles, stuff like that. sorry to make it sound so bleak and hopeless but it aint how much money that gets you into pulling, its how much money keeps you there.
Most pulls have a payout for 1st 2nd and 3rd. I won first the other night at a local pull and got $250. If youre getting into it to try and make money, run faaar far away!
Its basically impossible to make any profit what so ever, or to even come close to breaking even for that matter. Its strictly just for fun, and the competitive nature of the sport.

that is what i was thinking but i was hoping that there would be some money to help comp what you put in so i think that you guys have helped me find out that i am just going to be the guy that is always there but never getts involved. i Thanks you guy for the insight and help in my dead end idea. but i don't have the money to blow on a truck that will be an endless money pit. i have 6 horse and 2 of them are barrel racers so i already don't have the money. anyways thanks again and maybe i will see some of you at a pull someday. till then take it easy and stay safe

pull every once in a while man, we aint trying to stop you from doing it, just wanted to make sure you knew what the worst outcome could be, i only pulled once when i had my V10 ram, a brand new duramax only beat my 100,000 mile dodge by 9 feet, i impressed alot of people that day and never pulled again, just go out and do it once man, or if you really want to pull, pick up an old 3/4 or 1 ton big block truck, brand of your choice and pull a gas truck a while, its still pulling and its fun and it gives you a look at what you got to do to possibly bump up to diesels later.
