Cummins vs. Hemi
I got an offer tonight to hook a 2005 4X4 Hemi, stock. I think I will pull him just fine, mainly because of the weight ratios. With my engine alone, bumper, rack, and toolbox. Dont you think I can pull him alright? As long as I dont break traction. I know he will not know what to do ( hard city boy) and he will floor it and break traction, then all I do is just ease off and go with him. Any suggestions / thoughts?
Yank it hard enough to bust his hitch, then let him explain to the service manager how it happened. If he really feels tough put 12K on a trailer and time each truck. That will tell the tale.
John- What do you mean? Hold the break and hit the gas then let off? I dont want to put too much umphf on my stuff and break it when I take off. haha I only hook people I know I can beat big blue!
here these will tell ya how it will go..

So with the sudden take off, like in the video, I wont bust anything? I could just hold him with throttle ( brakes too?) and wait until he spins, then put it to the floor right?

as you say he is, (IE city boy) he is gonna think that like a hotrod, floor it and pull, if you hold the brakes his 375 ft lbs of tq or whatever the hemi has are not gonna move that massive ram that you drive specially if his differentials are stock
he might spin one or two wheels, once he does that.. he is all yours... I have only done one tug of war and it was in dirt against a 6.0 chevy gasser.. All i did was shift into four low as did he, and i held my brakes and even the parking brake although it was hard to do i had a heel on the brake and my tip toe on the go pedal with the clutch in, when his tires started to spin and hop and i started moving slightly back i let off on the brakes and dumped the clutch with some boost already built.. and i dug in slightly but once my tires dug in right he came back almost like that ford does in that hookin video.. the extra 400 or so ft lbs made it seem like there was nothing back there..As for yankin bumpers with an auto, John Rodriguez would know, he has quite an impressive track record as far as that goes on yankin ppl left and right and with him havin almost 200 more horses than me and 100 ft lbs more well i aint messing with him...
Pavement. i have not nor will do a tug of war on pavement.. tire wear would kill me.. driveline wear might not be as much unless you are hopping in four low, but i probly will try it one day.. either ways you go you risk breakin somethin thats the way I see it, the day i can afford to fix it, is the day ill probly do it...
best of luck and show him what your truck is made up of...

Mikemaze: Thats an idea! I could just pull the fuse for the brake lights, and say I never touched the brakes!! haha. Ah, the joys of cheating...
I think he may wuss out
I told him if he knows anyone else, to call me.
Maybe Ill find someone else that thinks there half-ton gasser is stout!

I don't like the whole "sit on the brakes and wait for him to peel out" move. I think that's cheating. Put it in gear, press the brake and get on the gas slowly, so you're at 14-1500rpm and maybe 1-3psi of boost, and wait, when it's time to start, let off the brake and roll into the gas. You have the weight AND torque advantage, even if he had his foot to the floor you could drag him backwards. Hell, my friend had a new dodge diesel 2wd (qclb) and we did a tug of war in my jeep wrangler. He thought he would sit on the brakes til I broke traction and then pull me off, but I was in 4lo and dumped that clutch at 4k
and it pulled the truck brakes and all a good 15ft before I got too much wheel hop and let off.

I hooked to a 96 chevy 6.6 diesel 1 ton on pavement with my older 2004 truck since I now have a 05. WE did 4lo twice, the first time I thought I could hold the brakes but with brakes held and everything he pulled me. Then I did what you guys where saying brake stood it till about 1500 and bam took off with him no problem. You should have no problem pulling that hemi no matter what you do.
