Brush Pull in Neilsville, WI video, more carnage

Went to a brush pull/fair pull Friday night... Results didn't turn out too well.
Looks like I'm finding most of the weak points, though :o [yuk]

Is my detroit unusable?
http://www.puredieselpower.com/pics/axle/detroit.jpg

Do you think I could clean up the edges of that detroit and put a new bearing on it or is it totally shot?

At this rate I'll never make it to Scheids.. at least in the truck!

crobtex 08-14-2006 10:27 AM

[laugh] [laugh] [laugh] Not really funny, but at least you're optimistic. :)

Redline Ram 08-14-2006 11:31 AM

Wow that launch was a little rough. :o

Mcmopar 08-14-2006 11:41 AM

Bobcat:

You are my new hero----unbelieveable!!!!! Besides, the man of steel has nothing on you now! [laugh] [laugh]

gunracer1 08-14-2006 12:11 PM

**** boy you could tear up a anvil with a feather. you need more springs in the rear or you have to start off a lot easier. and see if you can block the suspension.

SmokinDodge12V 08-14-2006 12:14 PM

A blocked rear is the only way you will get away with a launch like that.

Yep, gotta get that fixed. I am running Timbrens right now and they must cause some of the hop.

Redline Ram 08-14-2006 01:57 PM

I hope you get it back together before Scheids, are you gona replace those axles with hardened axles.

Bobcat698 08-14-2006 06:46 PM

I took the ring gear out and cut the axles off and bolted them back in.. Got it up and running in front wheel drive.. Truck does some MEAN front wheel drive burnouts at 30PSI of boost [coffee] J/K :)

signature600 08-14-2006 06:50 PM

Nice...Redneck engineering at it's finest. Do what you have to do to keep 'em moving!!!

So what are you going to replace them with?
Chris

halerazor 08-14-2006 08:39 PM

looks like it time to get ahold of haisley for some new axles. that bearing looks like it was never properly packed with grease. that was a rough launch.

Somewhere deep down inside I don't doubt that you were in Plover doin front wheel burnouts.

Hope you get her back together. Come out of the hole sssssssssslllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooowwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

I gotta agree w/ halerazor about that bearing too. I would ask somebody about that maybe.

Look everybody its Captain Obvious himself! Travis is the guy yelling "You Broke Garrett, you broke [coffee] " in the video.
[laugh]

Yes, I think I'll come out of the hole SLOW when not hanging weights.

gunracer1 08-15-2006 07:48 AM

since the bearings live in a oil bath, i figure there is no reason for them to have grease on them. and i would try to salvage the detroit, just debur it on the out side and take it apart to double check the inside.

That's what was thinking!!

TravisG 08-15-2006 05:24 PM

Captain Obvious drove his truck to work today. Powered by ther rear wheels. J/K ya Garrett hope ya get her fixed. Did ya salvage the Detroit? Hope so. Talk at ya later.

Bobcat698 08-15-2006 07:01 PM

I picked up another Detroit locker and a set of Yukon axles.. supposed to be 30% stronger than stock.
Its all I can do right now.

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

Sorry to see the carnage Bobcat, that was some wicked bounce and one heck of a hole shot, go easy on her...

getblown5.9 08-15-2006 09:16 PM

lets see, you had motor issues (cylinder walls) a broken tranny, then transfer case and drive shafts, now axles...just think, all you have left is the front hubs, pinion and carrier to upgrade and you should be about bullet proof all the way thru.

although i hope you dont break all that. i have no room to talk...i still havent pulled the head off my truck to get ringed and studded

TravisG 08-15-2006 09:57 PM

You'll be allright. Just be a little easier on her. C-ya.

Bobcat698 08-23-2006 03:12 PM

Just an update:
Here is a picture of one of the new shafts, after 3 hooks with NO hopping..

LOL I'm just ribbin ya. Hey, if the made a stout enough rear end with a clear housing I'd buy it. So you lost the locker? That stinks. Are those the dually axles you just put in? You getting another set or stepping up to heavy ones and spools?

Yep, these are axles out of the dually rearend.

I already put a new detroit locker in as I like the streetability of them.

You might want to try the haisley roll and block the suspension or I have had good luck with airbags.

Yeah the Timbrens are definately a source of Hoppage.

I have had NO issues whatsoever with hopping when I hang weights off the front, though.
