Don't count out yet the HPCR guys.

They'll figure out a way to give the common rail some VOLUME, and when they do, no one will remember the 12V.

Those are fighting words it is going to be a WHILE before the HPCR's or anything else will even come close to a 12 valve. You can just get so much fuel out of the P style pumps that its rediculous. Plus; they wont turn the RPM's yet either. The 12 vave will NOT be forgotten

I agree with Don. I don't see the rpms or the fuel being a problem much longer for a common rail at all.

It doesn't take 800rwhp to go 12.50's. If that's your goal, it's relatively easy to do these days. With a good auto trans, should take around 600-650hp assuming your truck is not grossly overweight.

[B][I]It's grossely overweight truck & driver 8340# I am trying to get all the horsepower I can & still drive it every day! Right now I am trying to get some more air in it.I had a single GT42r on it with 102mm compressor wheel , got rid of it & working on a twin setup right now to get the 1900 degree+ EGT's down but won't have a inner cooler. You Cummins guys have it so easy! you go out & buy a kit not so with the 7.3's unless you want a 550 hp one.I am hoping that I can make close to 700RWHP without blowing the main saddles out of the block, wish I would have known about the availability of main girdles when the motor was out!

DART505:

I wanted to let you know that a friend of mine (Mike Reaves) just had Scheid Diesel completely rebuild the 7.3 engine in his 2001 Ford PSD including the install of Scheid's Twin Turbo's for that truck. They did other performance modifications to the lower end but I can't remember everything they did. You can give J.P. (John Pezan) a call at Scheid Diesel (Terre Haute, Ind.) @ 1-800-669-1593 if you want more information on what they did to Mike's truck.

Hope this helps you out some.

I knew that they had toasted a few 7.3's at Scheid because of lower block weakness. There is no question that they can make some power there.I am convinced that the 7.3 can put so much fuel in that if you put enough air in there the block can't hold that much power. If I would have done this motor from start knowing what I know now I would grout the bottom of the block to the bottom of the freeze plugs & put a girdle on the mains & port the heads.

Yes, I believe you are right. They did have some early problems with Mike's first engine with the issues you had mentioned. However, I think they got all of that taken care of and this most recent engine is doing well for him.

Dart505-
this is redrocket from TDS; I am converting to 'The Dark Side', and buying a Common Rail Dodge, and I hope to be in the 12's shortly. I am tired of pouring $ into the Ford, when the Dodges are doing it SO much easier
