2wd diesel pulling
It would be interesting to see a 2wd pro mod pickup but then again, I'll stick with 4wd. The tractors are totally different than the trucks. The weight setup is usually about 45/55 front to rear. Also with those tractors, setting up weights is alot different from setting it up on pickups, mainly because they have a differnt wieght/track/engine/ everything. I thought about building a 2wd a little while back since I worked on the Pro stock pullers back east for my Boss and his friend but after looking into it, I'll just stick with 4wd....

Relax fellas - I thought this thread's subject was about pulling with a 2WD CTD Ram... which, if I may add - is vastly different than tractors or gassers as some of you have so adroitly pointed out.
I would like for you to point out to me what differences of a gas 2wd truck is versus a diesel 2wd truck, for a better understanding??
Now, that being said... I have no idea on 2wd vs. 4wd, I haven't seen a 2wd pull that was actually set up for it. I'd love to see a Cummins powered Ram suspended in the air. But if you build a 2wd, I'll pert' near guarantee it'll be a dedicated puller!
I'll take a crack... How about frame stress. Hanging a diesel engine in the air is taxing on the frame as it is, much less having it bounce up and down a bit. It'd take a lot more stripping of the truck, and beefing of the frame to handle the stress of the diesel.

A diesel puller could have close to the same weight distribution, when all the gassers have 4 to5 hundred lbs hanging off there front bumper you have the same weights still setting on the tractor at home.
A full modi diesel puller would be great but I was thinking of a truck that bent the rules to fit a street class. something that would get others to want to try it out and go from there. Thats what happened with our big rigs. It was always a bunch of purdy log trucks and a few old trucks, nothing special for pulling. Then one guy built a truck with an industrial cummins that would outpull every truck by a long shot. the next year noone wanted him to pull, the year after that there were two more just like him and now we have 7 or 8 that are pulling only.
someone has to stick out
there was a 2wd white 3rd gen pulling this year in ohio, i beleive he pulled well over 250ft and may have finished in the top 10 at london out of 40-50 trucks. i have no idea what his name is or where he is from, maybe one of the other guys know who i'm talking about
but would you expect to pull say a 350 hp hemi against a 350 hp cummins?
So we dont need to have equal hp to pull against a gasser. but we do need more torque so yeah there will be more rotational stress.
On a side note when is a gassers high hp and low tq cabable of pulling the same as a diesels low hp high tq? that is at a low speed with a pile of weight behind it.
So, I should move my weight to the back.. and pull in 2wd???
If you are watching the gasser classes.. and trying to compare the 2wds to the 4wd.. there's too many differences between the classes... Most of the time the 2wd classes run a longer wheel base.. larger surface area tires.. (maybe not total..) higher hitch hieght... and run 600cid limit with either 2 turbos.. or a supercharger.. most of the 4wd classes might run a little more cubes.. but most are naturally aspirated... If the tire size, and HP were the same.. it would be no contest.. Look out in the fields.. there's a reason 99% of higher HP tractors are sold as MFWD or 4WD....
I think it would be a fun class to see.. getting it balanced will be fun.. and you might have to move the engine back a little... All you need it two trucks to get a class started....

We are building a mod 2wd for next year with a 5.9 DHRA wants us to run with the 4x4 mods the mtors will be the same. our tires are 18.4/16.1 their 44in tall same tire I ran on my Minirod.we have tube chassi 2007ram fiberglass body ,Profab 3sp.trans.Roskwell diff, with planiteries .Sofar they want us to weigh 7500lb the front will weigh about 2600lb at least for the first hook then we will see after that.
