the wimpiest engine crane in the world

I have a brand new 2 ton engine hoist sitting in my garage, I went to go and lift the head on my truck today. And that fricken POS wont lift the head, I can move the head by hand, but the crane wont lift it..... ARRRGHH,, what next,, any ideas?

If you can find some 2" pipe and a welder, build yourself an A frame hoist that you can take apart when your done. This way you can lift all kinds of things.

How cold is it in the garage? I know when my friends hoist got cold (-15 or better), the fluid was just too thick to refill the piston in the pump, have to wait about 15 seconds before you could give it another stroke. My princess junk hoist has been pretty good, though. His is also PA stuff.

Maybe no fluid in it or the valve is not tight, I have one from Costco, it works well just very slow to raise

Is it the adjustable boom lenght? Mine took awhile to get to work right. You could check to see if there is hydralic fluid in the cylinder ram. Sometimes theres air that needs to be purged out of the system. Whats the rating on the cylinder?

Its warm in the garage, 70*. I cant seem to figure out how to check the fluid level on it. That is how it feels, as if it is low

Any of my bottle jacks have a rubber plug or screw with a washer in the body of the jack by the ram piston, probably about 1/2 way up.

Fill to the bottom of the hole. Maybe there is air in the cylinder? I know on the hydraulic floorjacks there is a procedure to bleed the air out.

Procedure bah!!! Push the ram down till it is all the way in. Pump it up about 1/2 travel and then release back down to all the way in. I do that a couple times until you can't hear/feel the bubbles in the fluid going out of the cylinder..
