I dunno - Im no law expert. "outlet on muffler" doesnt tell you much. I would fight it based on that description isnt very good. Typical abuse of power in my mind.

Hmmm, probably under this Traffic Safty Act Vehicle Equipment Regulation Section 61 (1) (2) or (3) ....

Mufflers
61(1) A motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
must have an exhaust muffler that cools and expels the exhaust
gases from the engine without excessive noise and without
producing flames or sparks.
(2) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if the exhaust outlet of the
muffler has been widened.
(3) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if a device is attached to the
exhaust system or the muffler that increases the noise made by the
expulsion of gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited
from the exhaust system.

Thats not good. Just about any of us could get a ticket if you have an aftermarket exhaust tip.

If your going to get fined for anything it will be in Alberta. Weve got laws that make just about everything illegal.

if you have a 4" system then just buy a 5" muffler . . . unless they can give you a ticket for downsizing too . . .

no, it would be "middle pipe spread" a serious malady that affects exhaust systems as they age.

not if it only pertains to the muffler. yes, the inlet to the muffler is wider than than the rest of the (upstream) system - but if we are talking oulet then the oulet to the rest of the (downstream) system would be smaller as you are going back down to 4" from 5"

i dunno - i'm just playing devil's advocate here and have really no idea one way or another . . .

The laws intention is widening of the factory exhaust. Has been around since before I was driving in Ab and Bc, just never been enforced.
I have had a few good chats with some of the Peace Officers trying to figure out what exactly they do day in and out. Traffic enforcement.

They are mandated by the provincial goverment to enforce Traffic safety act for commercial and non commercial vehicles. Which is pretty vague job description. But they are trying to handle all the ticketing, radom roadside inspections for compliance of OEM equipment along with weights and such.

To many complaints of big loud trucks spewing black smoke and disturbing the peace. Define big truck and you get anything from a tiny Toyota up to a big rig with triple on it.

I know a few shops in Red Deer won't touch anything but OEM style exhaust due to being on the hook for noise complaints.

The smack down is on the horizon as many people don't like pickup trucks so they feel their views should be law. On the same token smoking out an intersection during rush hour does cause massive negative impact for diesel enthusiests.

Remember be respectfull and maybe we can keep our privlidge to drive what we want.
