picked up a bht3b..........dont think it will work

it was dark thought the housing said 26cm turns out its a 36cm
didnt even know switzer bht3b's came with them thought 26 was the biggest.

anyway was looking for towing twins to clean up the big injectors i have in there now and the tranny should hold it.

so he351 with the wastegate hole drilled to 1" and actuated by a spring to the huge bht3b turbo...will it work?

how will drive pressures be? the he351 killed a head gasket already.
will the ht3b turbo spool?

what about a diverter valve to get it spooled then open er up?

will the switzer s 400 exhaut housing fit the bht3b? if i were to change it.

am i retarted ? should i just save the $$$ and get a 300/475 set-up?

looking for 450+hp tow ready and 16+ MPG

36cm is huge, and would be rather sluggish. Block of half of it and run it as an 18cm. Block of the inducer half.

Run it like that, the 22cm housing which is the tightest one offered is typically the favorite of guys running it as a towing / dd setup. An 18cm isn't that far off. If it proves to have drive pressure issues, get bnorth's old 38cm external gate and weld it in and dump it off.

I doubt you will need much more then 55-60psi boost to clean up all the fuel you have.

Rebuilt BTH-3B/26 are cheap, probably around $600-650 from the right source. Another good one is the S475/1.32/96

yep thats a cheap turbo.....should work good with the stocker.

and if i build it right i have a couple guys with new common rails that would take it off my hands if i want to step up to a nicer set down the road.Id rather not mess around with the bht3b unless i can find the right housing.

aparently the S400 series housings might be interchangeable? anyone know?
and
mike..can you do better then advertised price for the turbo above?

ive been reading tons lately....your set up with the 50mm wastegate is the cats ****....
i need to clear all the smoke up and ill have a tranny to hold it so...need something.

S400's are not interchangeable. HT series turbos all spin counter clockwise, where as just about every other turbo spin clockwise. I'd look at an S400 or a Garrett based turbo. S400's have a wide variety of wheel and housing sizes, that all interchange in the same foot print. GT42 and GT45's are close to the same foot print as well.

I just picked up a k31 too, got a 71mm billet compressor wheel. And a gated turbine housing.

I can get you new, reconditioned and/or used S475/S476 turbos with different turbine housings/turbine wheel sizes. I can also get you new/reconditioned BTH-3B turbos. There is a difference between the S400's and the 3B, like Tate indicated, the 3B spins in the opposite direction. If you had a machine shop you could swap the GT housings with the S400. I could also look into getting you a different turbine housing for the 3B. I've ran the 26cm housing on a 3B before and it worked fairly well.

What top turbo you going with?

he351 top turbo.

dont have funds for a complete new setup, id like to run a wastegate and the he351 or even drill out the flapper and run a factory style wastegate.
then spend some money on the bottom turbo....those s400 series turbos seam reasonably priced expecially the S400-75 96mm.

i dont mind spending money in the future to upgrade but i dont want to re-do the piping again........the bht3b seams to be the odd ball

idealy run the he351 on it and a nice s478 then upgrade the he351 later
kinda worried about the he351 though...........she has seen 40 psi for a while

goals are 450+hp with the ve pump 17+mpg and a tow monster

S475 1.1 83mm T6 exhaust housing. Same price as the S475 T6 1.32 96, but much better spool up. That is my recommendation, if you are going with an S400.

Jamie, you scared the crap out of me posting that. First thing I saw was a chewed up turbo, then your avatar, then finally the words, had a micro second of heart attack...

probably help with the ve pump too. low rpm is the ticket so that 475/1.1/83 would get that old girl moving a little quicker right?

and i guess you didnt see if trev's 351 with the drilled out wastegate worked that well?.....

how did the bottom turbo mount work out?

when using the steed speed manifold do you still make a mount?

No really didn't have much testing time, we will know more after the September long weekend.

We used a source mount for the bottom, I am not a big fan, we used one on Jamie's set too, it caused lots of head aches, I don't plan on using one ever again.

Yes even with a steed manifold, I always use a bottom mount.
