Hey guys;
I have a 2003 2500 cummins crew, and had 6 of the 8 drivers rear wheels studs shear off the other day (thanks Kal Tire). Anyway, when i slowed the truck down as the wheel wobbled it made the holes in the rim larger, making it useless. Anyone in Southern Alberta got a factory dress rim for a 2003 lying around? Im running on the painted spare which looks terrible.

 

The managers at Kal Tire don't know how to say no. Go in there and raise holy hell and they will replace your wheel for you. When I used to work there we fixed all sorts of stuff that customers complained about even if it wasn't our fault.

 

Unfortunately, I'm on my own on this one. The "did you retorque them at 500km?" is the standard out.
Anybody got a line on a rim for me? Mine is not the stock aluminum, but the coated steel type of factory one with center cap.

 

Most likely the Kal Tire guys overtightened the lugs which caused them to shear off.
I always recommend to loosen & re-torque the lugs anytime anyone else touches them, especially on a trailer.


To find one wheel locally won't be easy. Search on kijiji, call a ton of autowreckers & then try ebay.

Here is one on ebay. I bought 4 new take off wheels from this guy in Utah many years ago. If you live far enough south to pick them up in Sweetgrass it will save shipping & brokerage charges.

I use Kal tire all the time andthey have always used an actual torque wrench on my vehicles, not to say how acurate they are but at least it's not the impact gun like some shops use. Retorque is a must,i usually do it at home as it's just more convienent.

 

I used to work at Kal Tire, we used a torque wrench on everything. And as was said, retorqueing is very good practice, especially with aluminum wheels.
