Last nites storm

Anyone else get hammered last night?

Just west of Sundre we got destroyed. About 5 inches of hail tends to do a number on things. House got beat up, truck and van got beat up, all the trailers in the yard pock marked now. Power just came on about 10 minutes ago, went off at midnight.

The shrapnel in the yard from the trees is amazing, going to take a couple of days to get this all cleaned up.

Wife and I were outside in this for a couple of hours trying to get all the animals into the barn out of the hail. That was fun! Got a couple of good shots to the melon from a few hail stones. Wonder if insurance covers brain damage

Hope everyone came thru it OK.

Jeff

Glad to hear your OK though. Those hail storms can kill people.. things can be replaced! Sorry to hear about it though, what a hassle to get everything back to normal

ouch,, no hail in okotoks, just major wind and rain. just got off the phone with a bud in carstairs. hey got wasted with hail. sounds like all his vehicles will be a write off. pounded the windsheild right out of his suburban. decimated the north side of his house and roof.

It was about pea sized hail in Airdrie. No real damage where I am at, but I talked to my mom, her garden is shredded, as is the part of the tree that wasn't blocked by their house. Looks like lettuce on the deck, she said. She said there was still hail on the deck this morning. Looking at the forecast, supposed to get it again today, and tomorrow, and looking at close to 3" of rain over the next couple of days.

It's amazing the power of Mother Nature!

Now that everything here is for the most part dry, I could get a look at the damage.

Anything facing North and made of aluminum is history...Fascia, downspouts, gutters, etc beat to death and full of dents or just shredded off the house.

Vinyl siding on the house took a thrashing, mostly holes.

Even the side of the hot tub enclosure got dented to crap and it's a composite plastic!

The wood stove chimneys on the house and shop trashed. Shingles took a good hammering but they will survive until I replace them next year.

It's amazing how much paint was stripped off the fences.

The truck took a good hit on the roof and hood, shows real good on a black truck but oh well, I still haven't fixed the Bambi kill from January.

Strangely, the Chevy mini van doesn't have a mark on it and it was the most exposed of all the vehicles.

The trailers are the worst hit. Our new Horse trailer was parked with the one side facing North and it got wasted. Both cargo trailers were parked with the rear facing North so only the Rear doors got hammered. Saddest part of it all is that they are all black! Kind of shows the dents. The roofs seemed to fair pretty good despite the beating they got. The camper trailer had all the tail lights and roof vents vaporized.

The trees all around us are shredded, as Tate says, it looks like lettuce everywhere. All the wifes plants and shrubs are totaled for this year.

But I can't complain, a neighbor stopped by from just north of us and he was telling me that he was getting tennis ball size hail at one point (ours was golf ball size at it's biggest). Burnt Stick Lake, about 10 miles North of us is a war zone. Camper trailers, trucks, ATV's destroyed by hail. The tow trucks come down our road in front of the house once and awhile and they have trucks on board with no windows, caved in roof panels, a couple of destroyed 5th wheels have gone by with everything flapping in the wind.

All in all, the animals came thru with out a mark and that's all that matters. When your sitting on $300,000 plus worth of miniature donkeys, they kind of take priority when it comes to damage control.

Well, I'm heading back out to do some more cleaning up, take some more pictures and look forward to calling the insurance people tomorrow, YEAH ME!!

Saturday, I was out at my sisters, and was talking with her father in law. He farms out near Irricana. He was saying its been such a poor year for them, they can basically only hope for a good hail storm to come finish it off so they can atleast get some insurance money, since they weren't gonna get much for harvest. Looks like they are getting their wish.

North end of Gull Lake just got the heavy rain at around midnight, but what a "lightning show"earlier.I was up on the patio cover putting shingles on when it started---figured i had better get down real quick cause the lightning was close and not so good that i was swinging a hammer to boot.I grabbed a chair and beer and sat under the cover and watch it all go by,dog was freaking out a bit so he stayed close most of the night.DW

I got back from Cow Lake last night. Got pounded there about midnight-started with golf-ball sized for a brief period, then about 15 minutes of marble-sized. My Durango looks like a bag of walnuts now, although the glass stayed intact. Brother's '03 and trailer took it hard too. Could have been lots worse though-tons of trees came down in the campsite-snapped one off around 16" around 4' up from the ground right beside Mom and Dad's trailer-but it went the opposite way onto a Ford truck. Guess a tree fell on a tent and hurt a little girl fairly bad in the heart of the storm. They had to cut the ambulance/fire trucks/police in with chainsaws. The RCMP kicked us out around 1:30 as there were concerns that more trees could come over, so we all spent the night in a hotel at Rocky and came back in the morning to pack up stuff and come home. Fun stuff.

Supposedly they got golf ball hail in Sylvan Lake. I was at the Rockin Red Deer car show on Sunday. Talked to Ray, they were all running around in a frenzy as over 200 specialty hot rods were all out in the parking lot. But thankfully all we got was pea sized slush and just some heavy winds. The open topped cars were soaked, but all faired pretty well considering.

Oh and Ray from Thru the Windshield says Hi to the chapter boys!!!

Ray has been Diesel-Less for a while now. That ride of his was oval shaped and yellow. In 100K it was through more parts than my 97 has had in 300K.

Says he frequents here, actually started off by saying,"Hear you have a new diesel!" Caught me off guard.

I was camping south of Cow Lake at Prairie Creek, we hardly got any hail. Driving home Mon. you could see where it was piled in the ditches, looked like snow. Amazing what a difference just a few k's make.
