Does anyone check the alignment with the run out dial tool ?
I am reading the manual to install the nv4500 and just noticed they recommend checking alignment
MOUNTING STUD OR ROD
2 - DIAL INDICATOR
3 - INDICATOR PLUNGER
I might sound bit silly for asking but i have spent so friggin much money on this i just want to do it right

Never done it on mine either. If the alignment is off, are you going to re dowel it? There is no way to check it and then set it once the tranny is inside the bellhousing without the dowels.
Not that its gonna hurt anything to check, but I don't see it being very far out. Whats the tolerance?
J, what they do is mount a mag base to the flywheel, and then run the dial on the ID of the input shaft retainer bore in the bellhousing.

Thanks Tate.. I saw that in the FSM you got me the link to but just forgot about it. I was in the same frame of mind, if its not good, then what? Worked when it came out...LOL..

Both those specs sound really high. They are 3/8" bolts into aluminum without heli-coils. Personally, other than the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts, I didn't torque anything there. You can usually feel when something is tight enough. Never had anything come loose on my trucks yet, and thats going on a couple years now.
Edit, my bad, I see its 33 ft.lbs for the bellhousing the engine adapter. That sounds about right.

we dial all engines that have an automatic behind it. far far more important to an auto that the housing be dialed and be within spec. we change them occasionally at work if one is out of spec. a housing out of spec in any measurement will take an auto out.
that said we never dial housings if it has a clutch.

Ironically enough, the only tranny you can do that with is the NV4500, as the G56, NV5600 and the autos have intergal bellhousing. If it can't be done with the other trannies, it can't be THAT critical in our application.
