Crd head that is no good

Only issue with that, is it will give you a general idea at best. The reason being is that there is a fair bit of casting shift in these heads. This is the reason that you don't see many CNC porting jobs offered, as it may be a good porting job on one head, and may be into a water jacket on the other.

Hey Rob, are you researching machining the intake manifold off also?
Perhaps you or a local shop can learn this procedure if no one else locally has done this before?
It doesn't look hard, ZZcustomFab says that if you purchase their Cummins intake manifold, all the head machining instructions are included.
But I'd still be nervous if my Cummins head was the one the machine shop was learning on...

Thanks for the info Brent & Mike H. It is excellent to know that a local machine shop can machine off the Cummins integrated intake manifold.
I just discovered that Wicked/Motorsport Diesels in Virginia now offers a good looking CR intake manifold.

US$849 plus any options. Made of steel sheetmetal with a thick steel flange plus an option available to mount a 2nd CP3.
Plus the cost of a new intercooler tube. They also mention they include a template to drill the necessary mounting holes in the head.
Wicked Diesels also offers the machining & drilling/tapping service for $250 but the shipping of the head back & forth would not be worth it.
If a local shop can come close to that price with good quality, that would be the way to go.
I have no plans of yanking my head or engine but I am a planner & researcher when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Wow thats a nice looking piece. Looks better than the Big Bo$$ from Bank$.
