I'm working on getting a custom grind camshaft made up for the P7100 pump. I need two more people interested (they need three orders to start the order), and I can get it ground-up right away. I'm thinking about ordered one for my 913 pump. This camshaft is trial stuff and no one has used this type of cam in a P7100 pump as of yet. I will be working on getting more performance details tomorrow and some pricing.

I have to find out if the mod is worth the effort. As the details come out I'll keep everyone upto date on it. I'll give the vendor the thumbs up tomorrow, unless they want a crazy dumb amount of money. I want and need more fuel for my truck.

If you guys are going to recam a pump, you should leave the 180/215 pumps alone and do the 160/175 pumps. They have the non-reversal cams, poor refill time. The bigger pumps have the assymetrical cam, which has better fiill time which is why they are capable of more power.

Who's the vendor doing them, and have they done this stuff before?

I can't name the vendor on the web as this is R&D development project. I'll willing to chat with you on the phone as the details become available. I would like to try a cam in a few different styles of pumps. My pump will be an all in race only pump, so I'm ok with trying a few things out. I'm getting some custom injectors to match the pump. It would be cool to get in on some R&D, yes the name is well know. Its not a big diesel shop, but they have built pump cams before. They just need three orders to start, if price isn't too crazy, then I'm interested.

Tate, your right that the biggest bang for the buck will come from the 160/175 pumps. I need the old pump as core, as they will have to re-grind the old cam. The 215 pump/cam is already pretty good and aggressive all ready, but there is always room for improvement, expecally when you can get more fuel. The more aggressive cam allows for more aggressive fueling, with more fuel cc's (I hope I got that right). This is still all developmental, it may or may not work. I'll pass along the info as I get it. I'm still a P7100 newbie I just had a shop offer to mod my pump but they needed two more to justify putting time into set-up the shop to grind the cams. Theres only one way to learn this stuff.

Total CC is going to depend more on the barrels than the cam. You can't add lift to these cams, so your stroke on the barrel is still going to be the same. The biggest benifit is from a faster injection cycle. This will increase injection pressure, which means getting more fuel in a shorter time. Less smoke, less EGT's. It will also increase fill times, which will help on keeping the fuel up in the higher RPMs.

Tate, I forgot to mention that the barrells and plungers will be changed out at the same time that you add a higher lift cam. Trust me, you'll have more cc's afterwards. I'm getting a quote on whats gonna be done and at different levels. Sorry, I'm not putting out to that much info on the pump on the internet. Its still pretty high level stuff, if you want something special done, I sure that we can look into it. Trust me it will be a decent pump.
