Brake lights issue again

After a search on about brake lights staying on in Ram trucks I never did read is the computer able to make the brake lights stay on. After doing all the usual tests the only way they go out is turn off the key or put the test light in thr brake light switch connector in the white with tan stripe wire and they will go out while it is grounded. If it is programmable does it have to be done at a dealer as my truck went on a diet last summer and is missing some parts/

I'm assuming you're talking about the '07 in your sig. I would suspect the brake lights are controlled by a switch module located on your pedel assembly under the dash.My GF has a '96 and it has such a switch module and the plunger is a plastic thing that over time will wear down and not completely disconnect the current source across the internal contacts. The cheap solution is to put a small rubber cap (like used on dead-ending vacumn lines and ports.) which will add to the total length and once again stop the light switch from acuatating. On the other hand, a replacment is quite expensive as switches go and since her switch is in fine condition just the tip of the plunger worn, I fixed it that way and has had no further incidents. My '03 has never had an issue with the brake switch giving me fits like that so the choices are varied in your case depending on the year of the truck. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I actually did some serious digging and found an honest Dodge warranty guy who admitted there is an issue with 2007.5 - 2009 Ram trucks with the TIPM (fuse block) which has 3 stacked circuit boards. Apparently the circuit boards have a tendency to fail, the one in the middle is the worst and causes weird science like interior lights or brake lights coming on even with all the fuses pulled out. The problem has supposedly been cured in the new truck body style. The units have core charge meaning they are rebuilding them and then must be reflashed at your dealer once installed all part of a system to tell you a light might be out. $700-1000 later good to go again for supplying sub-quality electronic junk.
