I've got a blue point hammer crimper for battery cables, in around the 2/0 size. If anyone needs to borrow.

Luke - that is really good to know. There is a river and valley in the way but I can see Okotoks from my back deck. You are way more convenient that most of the rest of the folks in the Alberta chapter. I might just have to take you up on that in the near future. Knowing that I have a cracked cable end isn't making me very happy.

Well, I don't have a company truck anymore. As such, running my Espar more often is starting to take its toll on the OEM batteries. Not bad after 5 years.

What has been the definitive battery to go with? Anyone know where to get them in Lloydminster?

I've found some Group 31's at NAPA at 1060 cca...

I liked my Optima yellow in my '98.

Mine is a NAPA unit. The one that came with the truck crapped out last winter... the previous owner had the receipt in the glove-box..... NAPA covered it under warranty!! Now THATS service!

I found ProVolt at Peavey Mart. Never heard of them though and didn't buy because of it.

Canadian Tire doesn't carry Optimas anymore - just got back from checking.

I'm running Group 31's that I got from Luke at Waterous, when he still worked there. Maintenance free batteries, so they shouldn't make a mess like my last set. I got 5 years out of my last set, but they had a pretty hard life. Went through a total of 4 alternators on them.

Went through alternators because of the batteries? Or separate issue?

I think it was due to the Espar. Run the batteries down a bit, it would go full tilt trying to recharge them and eventually burn out. I'd like to find a higher amperage alternator.

A couple of months down the road I am still happy with the Interstates, but let's be honest, this winter hasn't been much of a test for batteries yet....

The NAPA group 31's were shoe horned in last night. I had to use a considerable wire stretcher to get the cables onto the new batteries. I also had rig a couple bungee cords as tie downs for now as the OEM clips are useless on the narrow batteries that don't even have a provision for the base clips.

What the heck is that springy plunger thingy (highly technical term) on the base of the drivers side battery tray??

That wind was freakin cold last night - reroute the one cable so it's not pulling when it gets warmer.

Battery temp sensor. Regulates charging voltage based on the temp it sees. In summer, I'll charge around 13.2V, in the winter, it'll go up to 14.5V

Makes sense Tate but I've never heard of or seen one of those before? What year trucks were they in? Is that after-market or factory?
