My tires looked low, so I went home and got the pressure gauge out of the dually and then off to the gas station. All the tires were at 40 psi. While I was filling them (took a long time), I noticed more issues with the weights. They banged on 3 different kind of weights. MC weights, AW, and then the plain uncoated lead weights you use on steel wheels. There are also weights 180 degrees from each other on the left rear. So I called them up, asked them if double weighting was their policy. They said no, and bring it in and we'll fix them up. I said if I'm coming back in, all the weights are coming off and beads are going in. So I guess I'll have to sit at the tires store for another 2 hours tomorrow.

I know when I did my brief stint as tire guy, we use look for runout on the tires as where to position them, and if they all spun nice, use the weights to decide where they go. There is a lot of weight on my front tires, which bugs the hell out of me. We'll see if I get some death wobble on the way into the city tomorrow. Hopefully its gone coming home.

I know when I was younger I went to an older tire shop in High River where he would mount the tire then run it on the balancer. If it was really off he would deflate the tire and rotate it on the rim to try and zero it without weights. Most times the weights were small or none at all. Helps to care about what you are doing..

Fountain Tire in Lacombe is great but I'm just saying that because my father-in-law owns it.

i thought the beads embed themselves into the tire on the inside. so do they come loose when the tire is out of balance (say chunk of tread gets torn off) and then re-balance themselves? - or - do you have to add another bag IF they ever become unbalanced?

Beads are loose inside, no embedding. They somehow find the light spot in the tire and stay there to correct the imbalance. Just don't use that hokey crap from Canadian Junk that tries to seal a punctured tires. It will basically glue all the beads together and what you have left is a ball rolling around.

It said on the site that they are coated in teflon and they tried to use glue to hold them together and they just slide off it. The glass ones are coated in silicone to do the same.

Go talk to Colin at Cochrane Kal-Tire, he is the only guy that touches my tires period!

I've never made an appointment, he has always squeezed me in for a rotation or new tires on either my truck or various trailers. If he can't get you in right at that moment, he will tell you to come back in 20 minutes or whatever.

I have never had a problem and Colin lets me stand there in the shop and watch the guys do the work, he knows I'm picking about my truck when it comes to someone else driving it or working on it.

Highly recommend them to anyone that wants to make the drive to Cochrane.

Jeff

tate, where did you get the holes machined out? I have a set of H2s on the way up from Arizona with my brother. but they need to be cut. I don;t want to hand cut them out like I did my 1st set.
