Just saw this, to get something through a write off inspection, the body damage must be repaired to pre-accident condition as well as the vehicle has to go through a full mechanical inspection as well. We do them where I work, see lots of people get in over there head thinking they got a deal on a write off. It depends on the insurance company when it comes to buying stuff back, people I know have bought stuff back for 10% of the payout.
