Tires??

I never thought to check but the E rated tired on my Dodge 265/70/17 are rated at 3195# and the E rated tired on teh Chev I traded in 265/75/16 were rated at 3415#. With my Arctic fox camper I am 6400 on the rear axle. Does anyone know of another tire brand that holds the 3415 in a 17 inch rim?

I don't believe that a different brand will offer much of a difference in weight carrying ability in the same tire size. To get an additional 220 lbs capacity per tire you will have to go to a bigger tire.

Your new truck has a larger wheel but the tires have the same outside diameter to be compatable with the truck gearing. To retain the same outside tire diameter with a larger diameter rim, the volume of the tire must be smaller and will carry less weight in the same load rating.

If you go to a larger tire you should verify that the rims are capable of handling the load that the tires are capable of carrying. Also, it will effect your speedometer and will have some effect on the overall gearing.

Toyo, Nitto, and Hankook (and maybe Cooper) make E rated tires in a 17" that have a higher weight rating. I use Nitto Highway Terrain tires (285 70 17 E rated) that have a weight rating of 3,750 pounds. Do a search on this site and I think you will find that the Toyo and Nitto tires are liked by most of the people that have used them. Toyo makes a 285 75 17 E tire that has a weight rating of just under 4,000 pounds.

The nitto durra grappler is rated in the 3400lbs range. I ran them on my 07 2wd. Great hwy tire! Much more stable for towing than the factory tires it came with.
