PO846 Code ! ?

So , I have a 2010 CTD with a 68RFE tranny . (Deleted , yes even in Kalifornia : ) I would call my towing medium , I have a 21 ft bumper pull travel trailer and haul loads of dirt and gravel in a dump bed trailer probably 6-8 times a year between the two, in mountainous terrain . I baby this truck while doing so..... I do not push it hard at all. I want it to last . I have about 125k miles on it now and had the trans fully serviced by a shop that I fully trust and I always ask tech questions so that I know that they did it right . These guys are good.

So about 6-8 weeks after the trans fluid / filter service ..... maybe after about 2500 miles..... I tripped a PO846 code. when the truck was cold and just pulling out of the driveway. It went right into 4th gear and locked into 4th. I could not "button push" it into 1st gear . I shut the truck off , restarted and everything was fine. It does the same thing about every 2 months. I want to fix it !

The PO846 code suggests " Clutch 2 Prs. sensor plausibility "

I am willing to just buy a new ( factory OEM ) sensor and try it out but do not want to just throw money at it My questions ;

1. There are 3 bolted on sensors on this tranny . Two on the drivers side of the trans , And one towards the tail end of the passenger side . Which sensor is the one in question ? I think its the passenger side sensor ? Its Easy to change out .

2. Other than the elect plug connection and the trans fluid level , is there something else I should check before buying the sensor ?

3. With these exact symtoms , could it be valve body problems as someone suggested to me ?

Looking for your suggestions . I do not have advanced testing devices , just a multimeter . I live more than an hour away from anyone that does.

Thank you in advance !!

Brett , from the real and remote North Cal ; )

Well, I came back to say that Im pretty sure that I found the problem. A few months ago I had the transmission serviced by a shop that I really trust. Embarrasingly , I did not to the 1st step to diagnose my problem . Check The Fluid Level ! I found it to be 2 qts. low ! The level was perfect on the dip stick when the truck was not running. My assumption is that they filled it to the "proper" level when the truck was not running. I have not tripped the code since then .

I re-learned the lesson . Check the easy stuff first !
