I have come by a Smarty JR67, the white tag on the back reads SJ67P1103593, it is not new but vin unlocked. It came out a wrecked 2010 Ram. I'd like it to work in my 2011 Ram.

But nothing I do seems to work.

Hooked up it reports that it has version 6.02 of the software loaded. However, it also reports Error - Unknown software when connected to my truck.

In attempting to make sure that the most updated software is on the programmer, I downloaded the 7zip tool, the SmartyUSB tool and SJR67Us_2010_943C_DRS01M.7z. The .7z file was unpacked to my desktop. I ran the SmartyUSB tool and opened the unzipped update and was presented with "File is not compatible with version of Smarty".

This shouldn't be difficult. Not even close, not in 2016.

 

You answered your own question when you said it was Vin locked, they only work in one truck at a time so unless you can unlock it from that truck.....

maybe there is some thing in your trucks computer that is not compatible, did you buy your truck used or new?

 

Bought it brand new. Never seen a tuner or anything but the dealer scan tool.

 

The file you're trying to load is for the new generation US/emissions legal only tuners. You need to load the non-US tune SJ10V650M_DRS01M.7z onto it. Hence the error message.

Note that both these tunes are emissions legal tunes and will not allow deletes (if that's your intention).

You were correct. I downloaded the version you indicated, it updated to version 6.05.

Connected to my truck and NOW I see the unit is still VIN locked.

The owners manual doesn't indicate what to do next. It just says "Make sure you go back to stock!"

Problem is, now how do I get it unlocked? From everything I read, I've gotta send it to someone and pay. From someone named Bob Wagner to a guy on eBay who charges $150.

Are those my options?

 

Mads may not unlock it due to its dubious history but I would try.
If you bought it with the understanding it was unlocked then I would go for your money back.
Don't know much about the eBay guy but it may be your only choice.

 

Well that's that. Working on getting my money back. MADS did say they'd do it, but only if I could prove provenance. And since that isn't likely, I'm working on getting my money back. I don't blame anyone, not the seller or his buddy the owner who likely might not have known. It's just a lesson learned.

I was afraid of that...when you said the truck was wrecked that threw up warning bells that it most likely was vin locked. Cant unlock it if it cant communicate with the ecm.

 

Sooooo.... Now it back to waiting to have a spare 500 bux in my pocket.....

 

I've had several chances to buy some used H&S's for my 12. Passed them up due to this very same possibility.
