Dry Start Concerns

I purchased my 2018 Ram 6.7 diesel as part of my retirement plan. At first the wife would take it on trip to visit our daughter as her car was getting older. So we racked up 40k quicker than I had planned. Now we have replaced her car and I can cover up my truck and not drive it much. It may go a couple of weeks between use. I am concerned obout wear on those start ups. I keep Diesel Kleen in the tank to treat the fuel but haven’t committed to any oil treatments that reduce friction. My retirement is around two years away. Do you have any recommendations for me?

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

IMHO a few weeks between starts is not going result in damaging dry starts. When I was working overseas I used to let my truck sit for almost 3 months between starts. When starting after that long I watched the oil pressure closely on the initial start and it always came up instantly as usual with no strange sounds. Each time I started the truck after it sitting for a long time, it started just as fast us usual, like |I had shut it off 10 minutes prior.
If you want to get **** about this, check out Royal Purple. They make a preserving oil. Honestly, unless you are planning on not turning the engine for 6 months or a year, I do not think that you will be gaining anything by going the RP route.
The only precaution I used to take was to disconnect the batteries.

I don't think there is cause for concern. But, if you are concerned, there are pre-oilers available that deliver oil to the top of the engine that shuts off once the oil pressure is up. I don't think they are necessary though. There is always a thin film of oil that coats everything.

For example, I've had the engine out of my brother's Jeep for a few months now, with the oil pan off and the crankshaft still has a thin film of oil on it. The same goes for the top of the head.
