Exclamation P2609 Code on 5th Gen

I have a 2020 RAM 2500 6.7 Laramie, and a P2609 code just popped up the other week. I cleared the code after finding out about the "wiggle" test. None of the lines going to the battery or solenoid look corroded or broken. After I cleared the code, I tried remote starting my truck in the morning and it wouldn't turn over and threw the same code. Is this something that still occurs regularly to 5th gens? Is the Banks Monster Ram the only option for this fix? I feel nervous driving my truck after seeing the "killer bolt" posts and whatnot. In the meantime I have cleared the code and bypassed the diesel preheat process by basically double pressing my ignition. Am I doing damage to my truck by doing this somehow? I live in AZ by the way and I don't even need a grid heater. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

The P2609 code on your RAM 2500 points to an issue with the intake air heater system. Since you’ve checked the connections and cleared the code but it came back, it’s likely there’s still a problem.

The “wiggle” test can sometimes help, but if the code keeps coming back, it’s a sign something else might be wrong. The Banks Monster Ram is one option that some people use to fix this, but it’s not the only solution.

Bypassing the diesel preheat process might help you start the truck, but it’s not a long-term fix. Doing this regularly might cause issues over time, even if you live in a warm place like Arizona. The intake heater still plays a role in the truck’s performance, especially during cold starts.

It’s a good idea to get this checked out by a professional who can diagnose the issue properly. They can tell you if there’s a better fix than just clearing the code or bypassing the system.

Also, the “killer bolt” issue is something to be aware of, but it’s not related to the P2609 code. If you’re concerned, it’s worth discussing with your mechanic to make sure your truck is in good shape.

Diesels are compression ignition motors. The fuel/air mixture is ignited by the heat caused when the mixture is compressed. The 5.9 Cummins use an intake air heater to provide some extra heat to a cold motor to ease starting. Other motors use a glow plug set up. That code gets set when the computer doesn’t see the increase in intake air temp it expects when the grid heater runs during start and initial warm up.
