Oil change light?
I changed my oil at 3k on my new truck. I never got a light. No I am at 4600 miles and the oil change message came on. Is this because I never got a light the first time? Do I really need to change my oil at 1600 miles on the new oil? That seems a bit strange? Should I just reset the message and drive till this oil has 5k miles on it? Also, going by hours my average mph is 42mph. Seems like mostly highway driving!
I am using a fleetgaurd filter with delo 400. Thanks. |
What year truck is this, I change mine every 10,000 on my 06 and have never seen a light, I didnt even know we had one.

Sorry, 2010 Ram 2500. I need to fill out my signature.

It sounds like the light/message is based upon distance (5000miles with 400mile pre-warning). You'll probably need to look in your owner's manual to figure out how to re-set it.

I never follow that light...
I change mine at every 5000 miles. Always have always will. I clear the light if and when it comes on. 58500 trouble free and running strong as ever. Edit: To clear the message, key on to run position, pump accelerator three times, key off. Might take you a couple of time to get it right. |

i never pay any attention to the light or any indicators except lab analysis. Sometimes I go 8K miles sometimes only 5k miles. Pull a sample every 2K miles and send off. let the lab tell you when things start piling up. If it worrys you so much...
Personally I don't see any problem changin every 5-8K miles under those mild conditions. |

58K miles is nothing to these motors, so I wouldn't ever consider making it 58K miles without issue a large feat. Fuel dilution will take its toll in the long run.
I was just making the statement of so far so good. |

Oh I know all too well how many miles a Cummins can rack up. My '90 is close to the half million mark.

And IIRC you have done deletes right? Thats a huge difference on fuel dilution.
Did the DPF and EGR unplug with and Edge at 17000. When the Smarty came out I did full deletes at 43000. I was lucky, mine never made oil in the stock form. Maybe I should have mentioned again that I do have the deletes in place. I forget sometimes that I did the comical thing in my sig. [redface] Because, you are correct, elimination of the 4th injection event by either the Smarty or H&S eliminates the growing oil problem. |

Oh yes, I have everything deleted.

You deleted guys can run super clean oil too.. thanks to your piston design.

The 6.7 went back to the re-entrant design which keeps the flame in the middle and is more efficient. The 04.5-07 pistons were designed for emissions reasons, and were part of the reason an EGR wasn't needed.
