Not charging, low voltage, truck won’t move
So I’ve had my truck at the body shop getting some rust repaired and I just went to pick it up. Well it acts like the clutch is out, it won’t hardly move and I have a battery light on and the gauge doesn’t show that it’s charging. Also, my MiniMaxx has a weird message where the tune is usually listed in the bottom right it says something about updating to use tuning. Also, I have a message on the EVIC talking about servicing exhaust system soon. I’ve had that before and it goes away. Is all this related to low voltage? Seems odd on a manual transmission that voltage would affect that. Trying to get this thing home, please help!
Load test each battery individually. Makes no difference if the truck is an automatic or manual transmission.....if the computer doesn’t have the proper voltage, lots of crazy stuff can possibly happen. It’s entirely possible that your batteries were on the way out, and the non-use of the truck while it was in the body shop may have simply finished them off.
Thanks for the responses, I figured out that the alternator was bad and I'm waiting on clutch parts from South Bend. The last 2 times I drove it I noticed a humming/whining noise coming from the transmission area. Crawled underneath the truck and pulled back the cover between bell housing and tranny, there is fiber looking material hanging out. What gets me is the alt and the clutch going bad at the same time! I did confirm with the shop and they didn't do any welding on the truck. The first time I had the clutch replaced I gave the shop an aftermarket front bearing retainer and they didn't put it in. I have kept it this whole time and this shop is installing it this time. I kind of wonder if that had something to do with the failure? I didn't abuse the current clutch.
