Mileage reduced!!!!!

When we took our first trip with the new fifth-wheel, we got about 11.9 down to the campground, about 600 miles. But on the way back the mileage went down considerably so that overall the trip was about 10.9. Filled the truck up and have taken the boat, twice, about 65 miles each way and the mileage is at 10.2 just driving around town and taking the boat fishing. My truck is a Ram 2500HD with a six-speed manual transmission and a 3.42 rear end. Mileage around, town before our first camping trip, was almost 12 and now it's way down. Is there anything I should do to make this thing operate better. I can only remember one time since have gotten the truck that it has regenerated. I try to drive around town and everywhere else with the engine brake on.

johnh, when you say delete, give me a little help. I have never souped up or modified a vehicle in my life. I have seen where people say to delete but don't really know how to do it. Do I need to go to a shop and have them do it or can someone walk me through what to do?

Deleting means to delete and/or disable the OEM emissions equipment on your truck. To do so, you need to buy an aftermarket programmer and overwrite the OEM software on the ECM (computer) with third-party software.

Your MPG willl go up substantially and the truck will run better. However, it all but guarantees that your warranty will be restricted by Chrysler if anything happens to the powertrain. If it breaks, you'll likely be on your own to foot the bill.

Essentially, it's not free....you pay to play.

Your signature doesn't say where you live, but deleting will not pass most state's smog tests.

Pull out the temp/pressure sensor in the intake manifold (one screw) and see how dirty it is, this will be a good indication of how much soot is clogging the intake, be prepared to be shocked.

That's too bad, both of my CTD's always got better mpgs immediately after a good, hard pull.

How's your air and fuel filters? Tire pressure?

If you're on good terms with your dealer go get the latest flash (if you haven't lately). My mpgs went up by 1.5-2 after my last visit and flash.
